I found a new Henry single shot in 350 legend and I received it last Friday. The rifle was new and I put a scope and mount from another Henry ss rifle and surprisingly, it was almost dead center at 25 yards on first shot. I move the target to 50 yards and made 4 5-shot groups with the lowest cost Winchester 147 gr ammo. All 4 groups were one hole group.
Needless to say, I am extremely happy. I do have also a CVA Scout v2 in same caliber and it is equally accurate but I like the looks of the Henry.
I will begin testing for some good cast loads to hunt deer with it this coming season.
Anyone have a similar set up for hunting? What is your favorite cast load?
Thank you.

I'd like to hear what you and others
have come up with.

Not a legend, but a 357 Max, rechambered from a 357 mag by David White.

200gr lee, sized .356, my Henry has a tight .355 bore diameter. Lyman # 2 alloy.
25gr accurate 1680, small rifle primer.
bullet kisses the rifling when loaded, golf ball size accuracy at 96 yds.

Haven’t had a opportunity to try it on live game yet, maybe this fall?

I went to the range on saturday and sunday.
I tested 3 factory loads at 50 and 100 yds.
1. The 145 gr fmj load was ragged hole at 50yds but opened up to 2” plus at 100.
2. The 150 gr psp was ragged hole at 50 and about 1.5” or less at 100. Two touching the other opened up to 1.5”
3. The 180gr pp did .75” at 50 and about 2” plus at 100. About 4” drop trajectory at 100.
The reloads:
I tried first in this order:
1. 9mm 147gr Hdy xtp with 24.2 gr of Lil’Gun and cci-400 primers. 3” at 100. 4 shots touching at 50 and two others opened up to 2” at 50. Signs of pressure observing the primers.
2. 9mm 147gr Hdy xtp 23.2gr Lil’Gun. 2” at 100; 1” at 50. Still have some signs of pressure.
3. 204gr Lee cast gc’ed sized to .356 and 20.8gr of Lil’Gun. First 3-shots were in the same tiny ragged hole but the following two shots opened up to 3”. No test at 100 yds for this load.
4. Forgot that I also tested some cast 147 gr pc coated plain base. 16.9gr of 2400 and s&b srp. 2” at 100 and 1” at 50.

Other observations: hot and humid weather
My other 350 legend rifle is a CVA Scout v2 likes the #4 reload above an I have killed a small doe with it last year.
More testing to come. I will try other powders to see what I come up with.
Any suggestions are welcomed.

I found a decent load using 147 gr pc coated cast bullet over 6.7gr of Red Dot and CCI-400 srp. About 3/4” group at 50 yards. Don’t know what velocity yet but puts all 5 shots close together.
Can’t wait to see velocity and move the target at 100 yrds.

You can try some .357” bullets in your 350 Legend if you’re looking to tighten up your groups. I shoot a .357max (three of them so far), and I shoot .358” Speer HotCore 180g in my gun. It shoots under an inch for five shots consistently with Viht 110 and Viht 120 powders. I used to shoot .357” out of my 38Super race gun and they shot the best groups. That .001” sometimes makes them shoot tighter. Start light and work your way up looking for pressure signs.

Nice group you got there?
I am going to give it a try. I also have a handy rifle in 357 max but I have not found a decent load with it yet. Right now I am trying the 350 legend but I need to find a good load for the 357 max too.

I have a ruger#3 rechamberd in 350 legend and have had good groups with just about anything I cast for it from 200 gr. all the way up to a 285 gr that I paper patch shot a few hogs with the paper patched round and its definitely a performer, for powder i've been using reloader 7 for the lighter bullets and reloader 10 for the heavy weights.

I examined a Henry single shot 30-30 at the LGS yesterday, the first one I've handled. I was impressed with the fit and finish. The trigger seemed decent and the walnut stock and forend were gorgeous. $395 and very tempting. It felt good to shoulder with the iron sights. I was surprised at the ease of the barrel dropping open for a brand new gun but detected no wobble side to side.
" I have enough thirty caliber rifles"- said the voice in my head- what's that all about.....

.30-30 is one of those calbers that there is always room for one more.

I have a couple of Savage 219s in .30-30 and to me, a slim, easy carrying single shot in a chambering like that is a perfect woods rifle. I didn't know they are making the Henry in it. Good to know.

GT Bullets casts a 145 grain SWC-HP bullet that should do well in a rifle also. I bought some for my revolver and I really like the looks of it. I haven't had a chance to work up a load as yet though. I have been toying with the idea of a .357 Henry single shot for some time. I may just have to fall off the fence and buy it. james

I too was looking for a Henry single shot in 357 mag to ream it to 357 max. I have already purchased 500 357 max cases for when that happens.
In the meantime, I have also fallen in love with the 350 Legend in single shot break open and I’ve got one in cva scout2 and a henry ssr. Both are shooters.
I do like to get a cast load with the Lee 200gr FN gas check for a 2000 fps. If you have such load would you share it?
Thanks.

I really enjoy my Henry SS in .357. Put a set
of skinners on it. Seems to aim itself.

Sometimes I think about the 30-30, but I have a variety
of those (7). Here in Ohio we can use .44 Mag for deer
as well as the .357, so.44 might be a better investment.
No magazine or cycling issues -- whats not to like?

I have been a 357 Max fan since shortly after it came out. I have done the same with the legend.

If I was buying a Single shot it would be a Maximum hands down. Single shots should have rimmed cases.

I have my tc 357 mag contender 12” barrel at Mike Bellm’s rechambering it to max. I still want a rifle in 357 max but I like the 350 legend too.

Got my tc contender pistol back and it is now a rechambered 357 max.
I tried some loads and I found a good load using the hornady xtp 180 grain over some load of Lil’Gun powder and CCI-450 srpm.

Back to the 350 Legend.
Cases are getting hard to find. Primers are the most difficult to find.
I have seen some powder coming available but not much.
I hope things go back to normal.

I really wish they offered this in 35 REMINGTON!

If this was a 358 bbl Id buy and re chamber!! I have a couple 350's and they are fine.

I did get Jes to rebore my Henry ssr in 308 win to 358 win. It is a shooter.
I think I am all set with the 35 cal guns.
I can shoot the .355 and the .358 bullets interchangeably in all my rifles.
I shoot 9mm 115gr bullets in my 35 Whelen and get a one ragged hole at 50 yards using 11.8gr of Red Dot powder with WLP primers. I have shot the 180 gr Speer jfp in my 350 legend with some good accuracy.
The key word is: jacketed bullets. I will not shoot smaller dia. bullets with cast.
