.500 SW loading data: Lyman verses Hornady

Looking at the 50th edition of the Lyman’s manual and 11th edition of the Hornady manual, the Lyman lists a max charge of 45gr of H110 for the 300 gr FXT for a velocity of 2098 FPS.

Hornady list 51.4 grs with the same bullet at a velocity of 2000 fps.

Why the difference?

Both load uses large rifle primers.

I’ve been loading 50 grs of H110 with a large magnum rifle primer.

There is no universal right for all guns, you will have to start around the minimum charge and see which one closely matches the data with your gun and go from there.

Both are "right" for the conditions they had been tested.

51.0 = 1902
