i got this krag last year sometime for $125(i think). it was all rusted up, so i got evapo-rust and a 4" pvc pipe with a 4" plug. i stripped her down and i put in the action/barrel in evapo-rust overnite. then i put in all the parts and pieces into a plastic bowl filled with evapo-rust. the next day i took them and i scrubbed or brushed them off and i put them back into evapo-rust. the next day, they were clean. the next step was brownell's oxpho blue and a hair dryer. it was a pain to do action/barrel(only one coat), but cold bluing the parts and pieces(3 or 4 coatings) was a snap. i put them back together with the stock and back into the safe.



a couple of months ago i did the stripping of stock no. 2(citristrip). then i did the sanding, bartley's oil wood filler, sanding, 7 or 8 coats of minwax antique oil and finally johnson's paste wax. i put it back together, photo'd it and then back in the safe.



i still have parts that i need to get and i think that no. 2(the 30-40 krag no. 1 is finished) will either need a rebore or a barrel to the 9.3 krag. and d&t for a side scope mount. but thats down the road, i have two 91 argies and a 93 mauser to do.

it all started with my husqvarna m46 in 9.3x57. i have shot the 20 vartarg all the way to 500 linebaugh(rifles), but i just couldn't find "The ONE". that 9.3 husky makes my heart tingle. i loaded up some of Bull Shop's specials, 275gr wfn gc and 39.0gr of imr4895 and i took it out hunting. it has only one doe to its name, but boy, the 275 gr does drop them(behind the shoulder at 50+/- yards).

i began to shoot the 280gr rn gc, but Bull Shop's 275gr has my heart.

now i have a whole bunch of 280gr rn gc(.368") and nothing to shoot them.(ah, what about the 9.3x57 or remelt them? balderdash, i say!!! its "cheaper" to buy another gun!!!!!!:veryconfu[smilie=l:)

so i go to the reloader bench and i say, what caliber should the 9.3 be? 30-40 krag!!!! so i took a piece of krag brass and i necked it to 35cal. (35/30-30 die) and then i necked it up again to 9.3(9.3x57 hornady die). i did a couple/several pieces of krag brass. i also set a 280gr rn gc on the reformed krag brass. now i do the 9.3 krag with dies i've already have.

all i need to do is a rebore or a rebarrel it to 9.3 krag.

Might be! I certainly wouldn't discount the idea. I know for certain that if left in the dark for a long time Mannlicher M95s and Commission '88s will breed. Fortunately they don't seem to cross breed, but put one '88 away for a while and when you open the door there's almost certain to be 5 or 6. ;)
