I took a couple Grizzly slugs and screw them to a flexseal wad with 36 grs of Steel. Test gun was my Savage 212 at 50 yards. 2.75” Fiocchi wad w/roll crimp. Roll crimp used was a GAEP OTP. Produces a beautiful crimp.
First two shots hit same hole. Pulled the 3rd. Should of loaded more.

You have a mold for this slug or acquired some already cast ?

I’ve had this mold for about 5-6 years now. This is only the 2nd time I’ve shot the slugs.

Your 3rd shell has more powder in it. Or the base wad is higher. Look at your first pic

Could be from the table. It was rough, bumpy, and uneven.

You can n clearly see there is more powder in the 3rd shell.

Eh, oh well. Judging by my velocities, that one should have been higher.
I’ll get’em next time, champ. [emoji1474]

Now that I think about it, two of the three had trapped air between the powder and flex seal. That wad isn’t seated firmly on the powder. That would explain the drop off in velocity. I hand weighed each load. It was only three so it had my complete attention. For you to raise the powder up that much, you would have to add 10-12 grs of powder which would really shot my velocity up there.

BT:
You drill through then drop a screw in the HP and scew the slug to the wad?

Yessir. Pretty simple. Then I take a small drill bit and drill a starter hole in the wad. There’s a small nipple dead Center of the wad and that’s what I use has a guide for the center.

I'm going to have to try that!
A long time ago I tried attaching cushion leg wads Brenneke style from the base... cut the petals off then drill cushion leg and slug and screw together. I used a jig I made.
However, its pretty obvious this wasn't a good plan! It leaves a hole though the gas seal plus standard cushion legs aren't designed to crush flat then return to original length and without distortion.
The screw through the nose and the much beefier cushion leg makes sense.
Seems obvious now.
I often wish I was smarter!

I drilled a 1/16" pilot hole thru the front of my BW12 wads. I did it in a collet in my lathe. Getting the hole in the center is kind of important.
To combat a small drill from wandering you can make a sleeve of 1/4" rod stock and drill the smaller hole thru it and only leave a short bit stickling out. This makes the drill go where you want instead of where it wants.

If it was not seated with the same pressure it would make that raise the wad also. That shell is also longer compared to the other two. Can almost guarantee that was the one that flew off.
Champ????

Good catch. Even more promising now. I’ll load up a few more.
And yeah, “champ”. Something wrong with that? Wasn’t meant trying to be offensive.
