Wife's truck gun is a Judge with #4 410 bombshells she keeps under her seat when commuting. She asked me to clean it for her and I noticed a little surface rust easily removed. In a couple of places especially all the cylinder stops. Last time I used Ballistol but this time after cleaning I used CLP.

What do others use on their truck guns? Anything better for guns kept in a vehicle but rarely fired?

10w-30 Penzoil seems to stay in place better than castrol

Clean them once a week or so and any preservative will work. I would not leave a protection firearm for a month or so and expect it to work properly stored in a vehicle.

I know that it's quite a different gun, but I've a Rem 600 in my truck pretty much full-time with not a speck of rust, even in coastal Alaska, using Hornady One-Shot - gun not case version.

Renaissance Wax or Breakfree CO.

For lubrication I use G.I. rifle grease. On the finish I agree with Burnt Fingers and use Renaissance Wax.

not lube but tend to think of truck gun like the second lever action I ever got, my buddy at pawn shop told me I've got an truck gun for ya
its a marlin 336 texan in 35 rem, most of the blue wiped out from bumping around under the truck seat for years, still operates and shoots perfect and don't have too ever worry about it getting beat up cuz its already there. just wipe it down with the rag used to check oil level every now and then

Dang, why not buy a small can of gun oil? I'd rather have that on my GUN, than burnt motor oil....

A light coat of RIG works but for my 24/7/365 truck gun(s) I use spray paint. It really works and B12 carb cleaner will remove it if you want. I wouldn't hesitate to paint a Judge BBQ Black or whatever color she wants.

I use Corrosion X on all my stuff. Both as a lube and a surface protectant. Haven't had any issues with rust, but it's not really a super big problem here anyway.

Renaissance Wax is good stuff too. Easy to apply, and the tub will last forever.

I had good luck with Eezox spray in the past, too, but I stopped using it because it gave me asthma attacks.

Eezox is the best I have found.

There was a guy on another site that did a rusting test using brake rotors and many products Hornady One Shot did very well as well as the new WD 40 product( I think it’s called Specialist ). I would think that paste wax would also work well.

CorrosionX is AWESOME STUFF!
Another option might be wipe it down a reel and gun cloth. These are normally silicone or wax impregnated and do a good job without making a film that attracts grit as bad.

That's what I did to my Dad's 10/22 that he carries on the SxS on the farm. He has a windshield but staying on the ranger all the time it would rust and pit. Oil of any kind just made more dust and crap stick to it. Ended up taking the barrel off, stripping it to bare metal and them spray painting to match the receiver. then hit it with a couple coats of matte clear coat spray paint. Now the gun looks new and actually doesn't look like a rattle-can job. Also not a spec of rust since and it's been 2 years so far

Simonize car wax on the outside and Ed's Red on the innards.

I'm thinking of something that will bang around some and rub on carpet. The WD Specialist Corrosion stuff is great and I've gone to it for all long term but not guns.

Eezox and Corrosion X come up quite a bit. Maybe wax is the best idea on the outside.

Trucks are very easy to break into ...don't leave gun in truck under seat ... I had to pay for a new gun and the expensive side window the robber smashed to get it ...Riding around with a broken out window isn't fun either ...trust me !

That said : Two good coats paste wax ...Ren Wax is high grade and pricey , Any automotive pure carnuba paste wax (no cleaners) like Mother's Calif. Gold or even two coats of Johnson's Paste Wax .
Wax coatings stay on the surface like they stay on a car finish and last longer
Barricade and Sheath are gun products , spray on wax type finishes protective coatings that also work quite well made by Birchwood Casey I believe .

The problem is that the gun is sitting on the carpet, which is on the floor, which means there is a temperature differential, which causes moisture to form on the contact surfaces and causes rust. I leave my pistol in my center console much of the time with just some BreakFree CLP and have never had any issues. Of course, low humidity around here as well. Would never do such in a higher crime area or where there is a more humid environment.

Thats good , I love it ..." Wax on the outside and Ed's Red on the inside" ...that's inspirational !
I might have to get a new tattoo or at least write it down in my Cast Boolit Reloading Manual !

I don't know about Simonize, but here in the damp mountains I do use car wax and it seems to work.

In a real bind a good stream of Red Man tobacco juice will grease up those innards!
