I like to travel to SD, ND, WY, UT, MT. I'd go to the SD Badlands and Black Hills every year if I could.
So, where do you people who live in those STATES like to travel to?
Too bad I can't change the title from vacation to DESTINATIONS.

Well, it doesn't matter 'cause neither of you are from any of those states.

LUCKYDAWG13 - I wish my father-in-law was still alive - you two could compare notes! LOL :-)
He took a tour of Italy too - courtesy of Uncle Sam - but they sent him to North Africa first - he figured it was just to make him appreciate Italy more after his vacation in Tunisia. He told me that he strolled through Rome at 5 o'clock one evening and was able to get a glimpse at some of the favorite tourist attractions . . . . he was interested in geology too . . . . so much so that just about every night he dug a hole to see the different soil types from one end of Italy to the other. He told me the Italian landscape was beautiful . . . but he said that there was one place that he did hate . . . he didn't like Casino very much . . . . he and his friends spent a month trying to visit the Abbey there . . . . they would almost make it up the hill to the Abbey and then discover they didn't;t have a ticket to get inside . . . . unfortunately, most of his buddies ended up staying in Italy.

Seriously . . . I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed Italy and the other places you visited . . . it's nice to be able to do those things and see how others live and get to meet some really nice folks. My wife and I travel back and forth between Michigan and Arizona every year - I enjoy the "road trip" and sometimes ewe change up the route - I enjoy talking with the "locals" - have met some pretty awesome people. Vacations and such are fine if you can take one - but there is still no place like "home" regardless of where you live.

I took one of those trips many years ago though Europe and then the big sandbox of Middle East, got off the plane back in the states and kissed the ground thankful to be back. I still have goal of getting one of those campers on wheels and going to all the major national parks west of the Mississippi

Kinda lost the desire to travel much a few years ago. The last three years in the Army had me constantly on commercial air planes and sleeping away from home and sickened me of that once and for all. I tend to stay in my own little bubble for the most part now.

That said, the wife and I want to make a trip down to El Paso where we were stationed for several years when we were newly weds and haven't been back to in almost 30 years. I always liked the desert south west, just don't really want to live in it again.

I hate to leave MT in the summer. Even to go to Utah, Idaho or Wyoming ti visit relatives seems like a waste of travel time.

AFA travel. Opted out of trip to Italy and the Greek Islands that was postponed in 2020 and again this year due to covid. We will get back there but it won't be soon. I would also like to go back to Patagonia. Chile's civil unrest postponed that for a while.

Would love to go overseas again. Bit more Germany, maybe Italy, really only been on the sinking island except for a fast trip near Rome for business. We were close to Normandy a number of years ago, but ran out of time and didn't make it to the landing beaches, would like to see those. But probably stay stateside for at least a couple more years to let things somewhat get back to normal. (if they do) Never been through the Upper mid west except in the winter, would love to spend a few days going around MT, UT Dakotas. Need a road trip.

.

Yes, I'm not going to miss the two weeks of summer we get! If we're lucky. More snow forecast, that's nine months in a row now.

I just exchanged PMs with another member a day or two ago. He lives in Idaho, and said that during the few summer months when there's no snow he thinks it's the best place in the world to live. I'd never thought about it exactly that way, but that's how I feel about where I live. If I did travel, I'd always return here, so why leave? :D

Best week of my life was some 6.5 miles south of Deadwood. Camped out in a tent in a little campground. Little clear cold stream some 15 feet from the tent. Sheltered from the afternoon sun by a couple of big pines.

NE Corner of SD is not bad if you enjoy fishing. Watertown to Britton roughly. Pretty country, lots of little lakes and potholes. Not a lot of people, lots of wildlife. Normally the first 2 weeks of June is the time to be there. Has not gotten too hot yet, bugs not yet gotten bad.

I live in Fargo so I tend to play more over on the Minnesota side. Lakes are closer, have trees around them, Non-resident family fishing licence is only 70$.

Cody, WY and the firearms and western museums. Also Deadwood and Mount Rushmore in SD. The National Parks would also be cool to visit.

As I have aged, I have less desire to travel.

Back in the late 80s and early 90s, I traveled to WY several times. The first time was a 4th O july week long motorcycle trip with friends, we camped in the Big Horns on the way to Yellowstone. I loved the area all around the Big Horns, but Yellowstone was a crowded mess and never went back there again.

Each subsequent trip to WY always included time in the Big Horns. One trip I did by myself, I hauled a trail bike (Honda XL350R) to the Big Horns...I put 500 miles on that bike in 5 days, and probably seen all there is to see...What a beautiful mountain range. Don't miss the arid west side with it's red sand, there are archeological sites to check out, and there is a campground specific to that.

SWMBO wants to move back to NW Florida. Specifically, Destin, but she'd settle for wherever she could get to the beach on a daily basis. I need a place with a workshop, and I can't see us affording more than a 1-room studio apartment. At best. I believe I need to start buying lottery tickets. Ain't any other way I could see it happening. We were stationed there in the mid-80's, and I took her on vacation there about 3 years ago, and then sent her there the following year. If I hadn't lost my job here last April, I was planning on sending her back last year, too. Man plans, God laughs.
