So I have this receiver , no plans of doing anything with it .
Just curious on exactly what it is ....

Looks basically Mauser, but not exactly. The Chinese were well known for buying foreign military weapons and then producing them in China with small design modifications.

They did have a Mauser clone possibly two. and a 88 sorta clone .
But the one I've seen first hand had the norinco looking cross hair stamp on the top . this one doesn't .

Anything past about 1900 is out of my knowledge base

Didn't know there was a type 30 arisaka . Thank you sir .
After some Google foo I do believe you are correct . Now I know what to put on a tag before I toss it into a drawer and forget about it .

The book "Bolt Action Military Rifles of the World" is a great book to have for identifying military rifles . Years ago I picked up a soft cover edition for abot $25 but now I only see new hardcover books for $70.00 . Back in the day surplus military bolt rifles were sold by the barrel full at any place that sold hunting gear .
I bout a 7 X 57 model 93 or 95 Mauser from Montgomery Ward and used the book to tell which one it was ...it was a model 95 . This book has a lot of info in it and you don't need any google foo powers , just open the book and turn the pages !

Yep, hooked safety, two vent holes, smaller button type ejector instead of the larger mauser box type ejector. Bottom of the receiver also looks different than a type 38 or 99. Gun Jesus video https://www.forgottenweapons.com/japanese-type-30-hook-safety-arisaka-at-ria/
