Hi everybody, just got a new Taylors 1858 Remington replica in SS with 8" barrel today.

I measured the cylinder at .4485", then slugged the barrel, with a mic I got .4532 on two grooves and the third set was .4540". The BC gap is real tight at .0015" is this normal for C&B Revolvers?

Now to dig around in the bullet molds and see what might work. I have the Lee 452-160RF, 200RF and 250RF. I'm wondering if I ran them through a .450" sizer die, if they could be made to work vs a round ball for a hunting load.

.0015 sounds awful tight to me. That is tighter than a smokeless S&W normally is. My bet is that it gets hard to turn after only one cylinder full.

All my C&B revolvers are Colt style open tops. With the wedge that holds the barrel on, the B/C gap can be varied if you're not careful when reassembling.

Dead soft , they're intended for a .451-.454 RB at 141 gr for the .454 .

It's also going to shoot high . The repros like the originals are sighted for 50 yd .

The gap is a little tight , shot with olive oil damped felt wads it likely will be fine .
Lithium grease will reduce the tendency to bind on the axle from fouling .
Pyrodex is harder to clean up than real BP and T7 is worse than Pyro .
FFFg is fine , use FFg if you use the heavier bullets .

I shot a few 45-200 SWC which shot fine but weighed about 210 gr in pure . The conical original design was a 210 gr Pickett , 99% will shoot the RB more accurately .

Expect 2.5" at 25 yd as a realistic value . 980 fps MV with a RB was top step T7 35gr loads . Inspite of it being a modern SS gun it's still a 165 year old design and pattern . I know a few guys that have opened the chambers up to match groove dia for accuracys sake but they were intended to be shot heavily fouled despite the grooves design .
