So decided to hit up a cow pond I know has come nice grass and common carp and a few catfish in it. Their really fun to catch but due to trurlea and other critters it's a pin using regular methods. Not to mention their pretty spooky of normal stuff. So i figured I'd try some of the stuff the carp guys in the UK use. So made these things called bollies right. Basically their little hard flavored dough balls that are either boiled or cooked in some other fashion. They smell stupid good and are used with a hair right not on the hook.

All the us guys I talked to say you'll never catch a turtle because one they don't suck up the hook with the bolies like a carp or a catfish will. And their not very attracted to fruity things. I trap turtles as a side gig so all this made sense. So went out set up my rods and waited.

Guess what was the first dang thing I caught ?!

And you can see that strawberry bollie their in his gullet !

On the bright side the way the right is it almost always hooks what ever on the bottom lip so was easy to do a little doctoring and let the little guy go on ( it's illegal to harvest more than one a year in my state. I trap and relocate them but that's a different deal).

Back to it and my bite alarm on the other side of the pond goes off. Run over see the lines slacked real in aaaannnnd a bigger snapper !

Hooked the same exact way too
283502 popped the hook out and let him on his his way. So yeah turtles like strawberry and pineapple apparently lol

Carp are great fun to catch. I always kept it simple; chummed out most of a can of grocery store corn, then put two or three kernels on a medium sized hook with a small split shot and put it in the middle of the chummed area, caught a lot of them that way.

I'm glad for your sake that "AL Snapper" didn't reach over and bite "Buccee Beaver"!
We visited with a large one the other day as he migrated across the field from one pond to another.
As you know, they are rattlesnake quick. Much respect for them.

I helped one across the rural highway the other evening. As big a one as I have seen this far north, likely 17-18 inch long shell and I estimate 35-40 pounds. I know how strong and quick they are and I didn't really have anything to help so I tried to push it with my boot across, problem was it kept turning to face me so we just kept circling each other in the middle of the road, but I finally got it on the shoulder of the road. It was cool and wet, and just about any direction it went for very long at that point would put it in Milford lake. I like turtles and will usually try to make sure they get to safety, but I wasn't messing with one that dangerous.

I've had a few go-rounds with snappers, generally bigger than those.

We used to see some monsters up this way but a disease got into them and severely limited their population for a few decades.

Biggest I cleaned was over 50 lbs, he was after the fish on our stringer so I decided to make mom happy and bring her a turtle.

Only problem was when I got him up on shore he was continually making rushes at my feet in my mud boots. Being only a 1/8th in thick layer of rubber he'd of taken off a few toes if he'd got aholt of me. So we did the turtle two step back to my truck where I got my ruger 10/22 from behind the seat and put 3 in his dead. Does not kill them, but does slow them down a bunch.

Cleaning those guys is a chore. But I'll admit he made mighty fine soup.

I've caught a few since, usually on cut bait and I just release them as quick as possible.

I have a snapper that crosses my property every now and again. About a foot in diameter or thereabouts. Fortunately my dog has enough sense not to get her nose too close! We just nod at each other then go our separate ways.

I have a nice Turtle Sauce Piquante recipe if you ever need it .
Sometimes turtles die of natural causes and we shouldn't let good food go to waste should we !
