Still probably is, but not all states observe Memorial Day. Was at a shoot in N.C. during this holiday in the nineties. Had no target setters on Monday. A more "northern" shooter was wondering where all the school age workers were. Had to explain to him that Memorial day wasn't observed in every state.

My cousin who lived in North Carolina told me the same thing in 1997. She said apparently it was War Memorial Day as an effort to bring the country together after the civil war and most southern states said "the heck with that."
