Approximately 14 years ago, I worked up a load for Jae-Bok Young's 550gr. gas-checked bullet in the Marlin 1895 .45-70 lever action using H322. As it turns out, most of the internet forum discussions for this bullet and community load data also rely on H322. Unfortunately, I am out of H322 and am looking for alternative powders for this projectile. Excepting an old Lyman manual using a different 550gr. bullet and yesteryear powders, data for this weight range in the .45-70 is limited. I ran some numbers using Gordon's Reloading Tool which suggested that Reloder 7 and Buffalo Rifle might be reasonable in achieving velocities near 1500 fps with this bullet. Any thoughts on this or direct experience in loading this bullet with something other than H322? Thanks!
