Cleaning out a garage over the weekend, I found a box (old) marked "Ransom and Randolph One roll lux tin foil, net weight one half pound". The roll is about 6" wide and the foil is very thin. Quite different from aluminum wrap/tin foil you would by at the grocery store.
2 questions: What was this used for? Is it tin?

Thanks

It was used just like aluminum foil now. I got several rolls from a dentist a few years ago (he used it to make fillings back in the day). It was actually tin, I used them to make tin soldiers.

Thanks. Yes the garage was owned by a dentist; my wife's uncle who passed away a few years ago. So that makes sense.

I have wanted to find some of that for many years. Why? In, I think, Brownell's first Gunsmith Kinks book, one of the kinks was about a smith who would use such foil, with solder flux, to sweat on barrel sight ramps.
