I have several loading manuels before 1991 that list loads with Winchester WST for the 9mm, my newer manuals don't so
what loads for the 9mm and WST. Would I be ok to load from old manuals? I will be using PB, XTP, and Plated at 115 gr and 147 gr. I don't want to hurt my 2 gen S&W. I like WST in .45 so thought I would try in 9mm. I assume Winchester decided WST wasn'y good for the 9mm.

WST doesn't give you the normal velocities that 9mm can achieve with slower powders, mostly due to the pressure of the cartridge.
For light loads it will work fine.
I also use it in 45ACP where it is an outstanding powder.

It's all I use for 9mm 130gr cast in compact pistol. About 4 gr. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/wst-winchester-super-target-published-load-data-for-9mm.870180/

I've loaded WST in 9mm. It was way smokey...with coated boolits.

I've decided on Clean Shot for the light boolits and Competition for the heavy ones.

I don't load hot for the 9mm but if I were going to I'd use CFE pistol.

It's a faster powder like Bullseye and Titegroup; so would look at starting data for those powders and work up like we always should.

I recently used up my last bit of Bullseye, so I'm just getting started on a WST 124gr FMJ load.

I'll report back with chrono data when I get to the range.

Range trip today. Chrono data from 4.7inch barrel of CZ75 SP01. 10 shot strings

Bullet was 124gr fmj, OAL 1.110, CCI 500 spp

4.2gr Bullseye, 1115fps, ES-25fps, SD -error
Small crater (I've shot thousands of this load

4.2gr WST 957fps, ES-88fps, SD 31, primer looked fine, no crater

4.2gr Titegroup 1128fps, ES-47fps, SD 14, Small crater, about the same as Bullseye

Normally you want faster powder in short barrels. Several reasons, burning powder in air doesn't help anything but flash and bang.

I have an MP mold that casts 135 grains, I load them with 3.4 grains of WST and have no problems knocking over steel for all of my 3gun shooting, also nice in my PCC but not the sig mpx that is too fast of a powder and doesn't work well.

WST can cause pressure spikes in 9mm which is why newer manuals don't list it for 9mm anymore. Yes, it can work for milder loads, but there are better powders. I've had good luck with Alliant Power Pistol. It works well with mild and hot loads.

That being said, WST is my "go to" powder for cast bullets in 45 ACP and 38 Spl. Light target loads give outstanding accuracy.

like any fast powder in a small case, fill is more critical. Target shot shell powder that works fine in 9mm, just be careful with it.
