I had a little chuckle yesterday. I was visiting with some buddies, one was absolutely jacked about his new target rifle. Shilen barrel, Fierce action, custom stock.
Here's the cartridge:
Start with virgin 220 Swift brass
Fireformed to:
2.35" case length
0.401" shoulder
Blown out to 6mm

Firing a 117gr bullet at 2975fps +/-.

This ringing any bells with anyone??!!!

6 mm Donaldson Wasp?6mm Lee Navy. That's the chuckle part - the 220 Swift was created from the Lee Navy 80ish years ago.

That's what I was thinking but the velocity and bullet weight threw me off- that's 25-06 territory .......[emoji846]

Sent from my SM-A716U using TapatalkYou're not wrong! I have an old model 70 in 220 Swift with a shot out barrel. I've always had a hankerin' to rechamber to the Lee Navy just to see what it would do with modern powders and projectiles.

That would be a good way to bring back that model 70. It would probably fall between the 6mm Creedmoor and .243 Winchester performance wise( that's a little window)[emoji846]

It seems like Hornady and Nosler introduce a new cartridge weekly.......none that will do the Un- Done, though.

Did someone say 6mm Lee Navy?! Where did he get the 117 grain bullets?

There was a 6mm Cobra, based on the .220 Swift around during the 50's/60's that pretty much died when the .243 Win/.244 Rem hit the market. Of course the 220 Swift was based on the 6mm Navy but the ^mm Navy has a very long neck and quite a bit of body taper compared to the Swift and Cobra. The 6mm Cobra does show up in some older books on wildcats.

Easy to shorten a case. Would be interesting to hear how he stretched one an additional .15"

You use flight line to do that, is my understanding. A little prop wash helps.
