View Full Version : Wires entering printer head.

I’m brand new to this very interesting hobby. I’m in the process of printing my second object now, a 3DBenchy. It’s looking like it’s going to turn out fine. I’m anxious to start printing some of my own designs.

I can’t keep from watching how where the wire harness enters the printing head, it is a sharp edge and the wires are constantly flexing. Can they hold up after hundreds of hours of flexing? To me there should be some sort of rubber grommet or something to distribute the flexing over a greater distance. Something like what is normally found where the power cord enters an electric drill. Has anyone else noticed this? I’ve been wondering if I should try and make something out of silicone caulk or see if I can scrounge something off an old power tool. Perhaps they are available for sale in all sorts of shapes and sizes somewhere.

The unit is a Flashforge Creator Pro.

No advise on that exact machine but rubber grommets are pretty cheap.

No advise on that exact machine but rubber grommets are pretty cheap.

Maybe grommet isn’t exactly the correct name. What I’m thinking about is something with maybe a 2-3” tail that will distribute the flexing over a greater distance. Most plug in drills and grinders etc have something like that.

My first 3D printer was/is a FlashForge Creator Pro. I've never had any problems with the wiring harness. I have had one of the cooling fans go bad but that was an easy fix. It's going on five years or so that I've owned this printer.

the wires you need to most be concerned about are the heater for the heat bed - these flex quite a bit and are generally a larger gauge wire and higher current than anything else on the printer.
