View Full Version : A Song that touches your heart...

Do you have a song that touches your heart, chokes you up,....or brings a tear to your eye?

One that does for me is by George Harrison (former member of The Beatles) from the album Living in a Material World, titled That is All.

In my view, George is relating to his experience during meditation, communing with God.

Some of the lyrics:

Times I find it hard to say
With useless words getting in my way
Silence often says much more
Than trying to say what's been
said before.

...and:

But that is all I want to do
To give my love to you
That is all I'm living for,
Please let me love you more - and
that is all

Lyrics can be found here:

Listen to the song here:

For me, that song is touching...very touching.

Care to share a song that touches your heart?
Maybe add a comment or two?

“I then shall Live” Gaither vocal band. The words are amazing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsq3aDNhZIQ&list=RDlsq3aDNhZIQ&index=1

"I Then Shall Live"
I then shall live as one who's been forgiven.
I'll walk with joy to know my debts are paid.
I know my name is clear before my Father;
I am His child and I am not afraid.
So, greatly pardoned, I'll forgive my brother;
The law of love I gladly will obey.

I then shall live as one who's learned compassion.
I've been so loved, that I'll risk loving too.
I know how fear builds walls instead of bridges;
I'll dare to see another's point of view.
And when relationships demand commitment,
Then I'll be there to care and follow through.

Your Kingdom come around and through and in me;
Your power and glory, let them shine through me.
Your Hallowed Name, O may I bear with honor,
And may Your living Kingdom come in me.
The Bread of Life, O may I share with honor,
And may You feed a hungry world through me.

Amen, Amen, Amen

Amazing Grace and bagpipes!!

I second that one.
Another is our National Anthem while in a crowed being sung.
One that is sung here at the end of gatherings. Everyone stands, holds hands, and sings together.
Hawaii Aloha.
This one is sung by Iz.

"Clouds" by Zach Sobiech. Written and recorded by a 17yr old as a special gift to his girl friend, family and friends just months before he passed from bone cancer. It hit #3 on Billboard charts and has had more than 19 million views on YouTube. Disney released a full length movie with same title last year that tells his story.

I am a pro keyboard musician and perform all different styles of music, including liturgical and secular styles.

The songs I have trouble getting completely thru playing them are:

The Old Rugged Cross
He
In the Garden
America the Beautiful
The Star Spangled Banner
Silent Night
Oh, Holy night

It is bad when you cannot see the music for tears tears in you eyes! Simply listening to music is one thing, but actually performing it from within your heart & soul is really another experience!!!!!!

Last week was a Navy funeral at the Veterans cemetery, to bury our deacon. I love Taps. Echo Taps makes me cry. I can play Taps on a bugle, simple little tune, was once called to play the Echo Taps and ended up with tears running down my face. I can play it, but I can't. Taps- sure. Echo Taps- never again. I am in awe of those who do sound it.

I enjoy a lot of music. But there is one piece Bill Pursell version — 1963 "Our Winter Love" is an instrumental. It reminds of my mother and I get tears in my eyes everytime I hear it.

Part II of Handel's Messiah, specifically the Hallelujah Chorus. Just because.

"I Vow to Thee, My Country" the music of which was taken from the 2nd movement of "Jupiter" from Gustaf Holst's "The Planets." Many Brits consider it to be their unofficial national anthem, like "America the Beautiful" is to Yanks; a couple of Christian hymns such as "O God Beyond All Praising" also use the music, known as "Thaxted," given to the "Jupiter" melody excerpt by composer Holst. Here a young lass of the Royal Marine Bands sings:

"Safe and Sound" by Capital Cities. When my daughter got married we didn't want to do a traditional slow dance to something sappy like "Butterfly Kisses" because that ain't us. We both liked "Safe and Sound" because it's very catchy and I like the trumpet chorus. So we worked out a dance routine mimicing a number of the dance moves in the "Safe and Sound" video. It was a blast, and the reception guests were surprised and and went nuts about it. We got into position for a traditional father/ daughter slow dance, and when the song started we both sprang 90 degrees and started with the moves. I wasn't the least emotional then, but ever since, I'll tear up at the memory if the song's on the radio or streaming. It was such a good time, and halfway through the dance we invited the guests out on the floor and They. Simply. Did. Not. Stop. Dancing. until the very end. The DJ commented that he never had a reception where the people danced continuously like that the entire time.

The Capital Cities video that provided inspiration:

You dont hear this one very often Charlie Daniels version of the National Anthem. Fe plays it on the fiddle and puts so much feeling into it. Another is the Edmond Fitzgerald.

There are many...all named before, but I think my favorites are "HE is Risen", and "In the Garden". Beautiful! But, I have one nit to pick with the latter... "...none other has ever known..." I believe there are perhaps hundreds of millions who have experienced the "known" It is free to all who seek it. Just my non-humble opinion...not trying to start a fight.

Amazing Grace, Louis Armstrong "What a Wonderful World", Ray Stevens "Everything is Beautiful",

#1 Trout Fishing in America's "The King of My Mountain"
I'm the king of my mountain, the king of my stuff
My kingdom may not be too much to look at
But it's mine and it's just enough
I've got toys to amuse me, books to peruse
Ideas to pursue, even some I might use
Puzzles to puzzle and riddles to solve
And the things that I do for the people I love
I'm the king of my mountain, the king of my time
Sometimes I forget to remember that I am the king
The king of my mind
I tell it to think and not to worry
I tell it to rest, don't get in a hurry
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera I say
I'm the king so I do it this way
A warm comfortable bed, a roof over my head
Tapestries hanging on walls
Tables and chairs and secret staircases
Chambers for sleeping right down the hall
I'm the king of my mountain, the king of my heart
With so many subjects and so much to learn
It's hard to know where to start
I've got toys to amuse me, books to peruse
Ideas to pursue, even some I might use
Puzzles to puzzle and riddles to solve
And the things that I do for the people I love
And the things that I do for the people I love
And the things that I do for the people I love

there are so many. I guess each of our individual experiences of the past bring us to like or be moved by different things, me, my folks always had classical music on and every week we would all watch hee haw. I learned music young and have been writing songs since I was about 15. ive written dozens and it gives me the greatest respect for guys like Leon who wrote and recorded more than 500 and played on at least 1500 recordings, many we all know and love from other artists.
a big Leon Russel fan a couple that get me are
