I bought my 1987' Beretta Pintail about 11 years ago unfired for $300. I took it out shortly after to pattern it and was missing clay pigeons left and right. I finally pulled the safe queen out yesterday and tried to pattern turkey loads with it. At 25 yards I tried 3 different shells. I had about 5 pellets in two targets and about 7 in the other. I littletaly missed the targets resting my shotgun. The 7 pellet target they was hit on the very bottom of the target. I figured it was shoot a good 1' or more low. I dont know if it was a factory installed tru glow sight stick on univeral sight or someone stuck it on after the fact but it tore it off and re tested. She's dead on with the factory bead now! I should have known better. I remember my buddies putting similar finer optic sights on their shotguns back in the 80's when they first came out and had the same issue.

I jazzed it back up since I had a hard time seeing the orinal bead. I bought the brightest nail polish I could find at the $1 store...neon pink. I wanted green but it wasn't as bright.

Hopefully I'll be able to see it easier now.

Heck, leave the tape on. That's quite a contrast! LOL Gp

I was thinking about it as it would make good spring camo for turkey hunting.

Getting old and going blind sucks. I have to paint the iron sights on all my old single shot BP military rifles. I refuse to modify them....they're all good+ condition and all original. So....I paint up as much contrast as I can and hope for good things to happen. Lol...

Lol...your killing me. I like the bright TT pink. Lol

I had Lasik surgery done a few years back. I can see a country mile crystal clear without glasses now but seeing things up close are a little fuzzy. Before surgery I was legally blind. I think all my open sights are going to get painted. I did shoot my Ithaca deerslayer feathlight today for the first time with an orange front post. Boy that was slick and easy to see! Hopefully my painted sight is just as easy to see for me.

I also like fluorescent pink on my front sight and fluorescent green on my back sight.

the colors "pop" more IF you do a base coat of white (paint/nail polish/???)

i like Bic Typewriter correcting fluid myself. Bright white, drys in seconds.

And for pistol sights I can put a fine black mark with a sharpie to help me stay focused on the front sight.

And if you screw it up a little acetone cleans it right off, lets you start over again.

Most of my iron sighted guns have a little white highlight on the front site. It also shows well in dim light or reflected light from a flashlight.

I was debating on white. I’ll have to look at my bead in low light and and re evaluate. Might be a better option for early and late. Maybe I’ll try and dab a small white dot in the middle of the pink first.

Well the bead was wiggling loose when I scraped off the pink polish today. It's not stripped but just loose. I screwed it out with my fingers. I might have to order a tritium sight for it to match my a390.

While I'm still procrastinating I decided to put it back in and paint it white. I put a little blue Loctite on it to. It tighted up solid as as rock.

I found a bottle of nail polish just a little brighter than the tape at the flea mkt this week. Now I know why I bought it for $1.

Used to be able to buy ivory beads. Probably still can. The only problem I've had with white is shooting birds in bright sun.

Darn it Wes! Your gonna make me change colors again! Lol

Eventually I’ll loosen up my pockets and order a tritium 2.6mm replacement bead. I can see it really good on my other beretta.

I do have a bottle of lime green floating around somewhere.

I finally had a chance to take my white painted bead out this morning. I can tell you when I uncased the gun at 4:45 AM and it was still dark I could see that bead as clear as day! I painted the one on my 10 gauge browning gold as well.

I may be in the minority here but, I don't pay much if any attention to my shotguns front bead when shooting clays. I try to mount the gun, cheek and shoulder, the same each shot and keep my eye on the clay. My favorite wing shooting quote is "You don't use the hood ornament of your truck to aim when you're merging on to the freeway." Gp

I went to the Spirit Halloween store last year and bought fluorescent orange nail polish to paint sights with. This morning the Eye Dr. told me my eyes were in pretty good shape for a mid-fifty year old. Then he gave me my prescription lol.

Exactly.

When wing-shooting, once you start to focus on the front sight you tend to aim instead of just pointing, and the swing stops.

I had Lazek surgery done on both eyes a few years ago... before then I was legally blind. Now I can see leaves on a tree a mile away but now up close to the first 2 feet is fuzzy.

I was watching the Men Skeet Team Final from Lotano, Italy, the other day. Denmark vs. Italy. Four of the six finalists had about 3" of white tape wrapped around the muzzle.

Makes sense once i looked down my barrel with the green tape on and pink bead before I changed the colors. It makes it clear a day with the color contrast.

Another way to fix a shotgun that shoots too low is to bend the barrel. Years ago my father had maybe a Remington 11-48 that didn't shoot where it was aimed. Factory Rep that he met at and event of some sort said bend the barrel SLIGHTLY. Rep said put barrel over a fender (cars had fenders then) or a log and apply a small amount of pressure. Shoot to see if that fixed it, if not do again until fixed. secret being very slight bend to fix. Took two or three attempts to fix my father's gun. I have never had that problem and other than the 50 Chevy I started driving in the 60's I have never had a vehicle with fenders.

Tripplebeards... I see you get your money's worth out of your targets... :)
