Yesterday I picked up my 4 year old grandson to spend a few days with Grammy and me. On the way home (150 mile ride) I stopped at a truck stop with a Dari Queen and was going to get us a ice cream cone. He wanted a donut. What kind of kid wants a donut over ice cream?? Anyhow I get him his donut and go to pay for it. $1.72!!

Before I retired 7 years ago I about lived on my morning breakfast of 50 cent donuts. I doubt I've had more than a couple since. When did they more than triple in price??

Seems like yesterday to me. Things that I paid $1.79 for seemingly three years ago now cost something like $3.79 to $4.79

I understand your position. My wife shops for us because I refuse to pay these prices.

If more people refused to pay those prices, guess what will happen; short run they raise prices even highter, but long run they go out of business. I'm going to help them go out of business cause I WILL NOT PAY THOSE PRICES!!

I used to go to the Safeway before they opened. My dad was a baker, I would buy hot donuts right out of the fryer for $0.07 each.

Side story, dad got his bakery when they opened the new Safeway in Nampa. This was one of the stores with that swooping roof that some of us know so well. I still see those being repurposed for something else but they are very recognizable.

People will always buy things, that is human nature. We complain but still do it. Sad thing is we haven't seen anything yet on the inflation front, it is about to get a lot worse.

There are two donut shops in my town. Occasionally I stop in to grab my three kids donuts and kolaches before school. Three chocolate milks, one dozen donut holes and four sausage and cheese kolaches runs me right at $14.

I think it was about the same time a $1.00 cup of coffee went to $8.00.

The problem is you guys don't use a card. If you use a card you don't have to pay for the stuff. You just make the minimum payment until you have waited long enough to declare bankruptcy. One of my wife's friends does it like clockwork every 7 years. She just ditched over 70k worth of credit card debt. I said to her "Oh, so you just stole 70k?" I got the SWMBO look for that one.

$.75 ea. for fresh donuts at the Meier's store here...or $3.00 for a six-pak of 'day-old'.

Truck stop, side of highway. Limited options, IE increased prices!

The proper politically correct term is no longer "doughnuts" . . . they are to be called "Biden Bites" . . . just another reminder of the inflation we will all be suffering under the new Democratic Socialist Party - :-).

The cost of everything is going up . . . and UP. I say the above with tongue in cheek but unfortunately, it is the truth. Tpday, my wife and I stopped and ordered and paid for our headstone - one of the things I have on my bucket list to take care of this summer. We stopped and got a price in 2018 - didn't get to it and last summer we ended up staying in Arizona due to Covid. Since 2018, the price of the headstone had increased $200 - so even preparing for death isn't getting any cheaper. I don't blame the company we purchased it from - the cost of everything has gone up from probably the wages in the quarry where the stone is taken from, the cost of transporting (trucking costs), increases in overhead, etc. But, I agree with you on the price of a doughnut . . . it would be a cold day in Hades before I forked over a $1.72 for a doughnut! It might be a high price, but your grandson was happy and I'm guessing that it is very likely that the memory of you picking him up, stopping and buying him a doughnut and the time he spends with you and your wife just might be one of those things he will never forget . . . and I guess you can't put a price on that sort of thing. Funny . . . I still remember staying with my favorite grandmother - her fixing tea in the afternoon and having her friend from across the street come over - the tow of them allowed me to sit at the table with them and she gave me a cup of tea and two of her great big homemade molasses cookies. One of my fondest memories and that was at least 65 years ago.

Enjoy the time you folks are a blessing to spend with him - in times to come, he will cherish those times just as much as you do.

When you really need to worry is when people start buying houses just cause they are going up in price so fast. Wait a second...

I will trade you an unopened pound of Varget for a dozen Krispy Cremes, but only recent production (fresh out of the icing conveyer).

I've been in a whole lot of truckstops and never knew Dairy Queen had donuts. Most I've seen have Dunkin or something. It's a truckstop, your going to pay a premium for anything in there

About 55 yrs ago, my dad had a cousin that managed Krispy Kreme bakery, in Daytona, FL. Being the manager, he kept some of the leftover donuts and brought them home. Loved going to visit him, cuz I could easily eat 6-8 donuts without reprimand, and take 2, 3 or 4 dozen home.the plain glanced donuts were my favorite

I got the donut on the truck stop side, and my ice cream fix in the DQ.
I may have grumbled a bit to myself about the price, but I’m sure he’ll get another on the way home.

We only have like 20 donut shops here. Kolaches are 1.00, donuts $0.40, Apple Fritters at 1.20. good to go here. Krispy Kreme? Over rated, over hyped and yuck. Had 'em, find them junk.)

My boss owned a carpet shop, and had a tennant in the shop.....I think he had to bail them out financially, and ended up owning the business...or something............anyway ,next to the carpet shop was a bakery, and they used to toss lots of day old stock into the rubbish...cakes ,donuts, buns etc.......Boss used to get them out of the bin,and take them back to the yard for the painters and blasters......I used to go round the carpet shop to service the forklift ,and knew all about the goodies and never spilt the beans.

"Mini inflation" started here locally several years ago...........at least as far as the hamburger stand. I had my father in law in the pickup and offered to buy lunch, so we stopped at the local Frosty Freeze which had just reopened under new ownership.

I ordered two cheese burgers, two orders of fries and two milkshakes. The total came to forty seven bucks! I kid you not......$46.90! I looked at the menu board for the first time and realized that I'd never seen individual prices like that in my life. Oh, I paid for it alright. After all, I ordered it....but that was the last business they ever got from me.

That place closed down not long afterwards and just reopened "under new ownership"........

We used to have a great little doughnut shop too, that charged fair prices. Unfortunately, they closed down too, never to reopen.

The way our government is printing money, we should get used to prices going up daily.

We have in my area Duunkin Donuts and a local shop Kane's. Kane's donuts are much bigger made on site and make DD.taste like sawdust.
Kane's are $2 each but worth every bit. The ingredients for donuts has gone up in price combine that with a $12-$15 an hour minimum wage and the other cost of running a business especially here in Ma you'll see why donuts can be an expensive treat.

Only way I like Krispy Kreme doughnuts is when the glazed come off the line and are still hot. One is about all I care for. Used to be a place in Oklahoma City, called Geralds that had the best orange doughnuts. They weren't orange iced, but orange throughout the doughnut. Best orange iced was Mr. J's in Redlands, CA with a place in Tulsa a close second. LaMars doughnuts in the Denver area are pretty good I think.

I don’t see the draw about KKreme but then I’m not a donut person. DDonuts are better but not much. I did like their briquette shaped chocolate brownies, if they were two-three days old and dry around the edges. Now a grilled pecan roll would be a real treat but can’t find pecan rolls anywhere.
There’s a Polish store/restaurant nearby. Stopped there yesterday for first time in years. Kolaches were $1, they were ok. Home made pierogies $15 / dozen, bought some for dinner, ok but not worth that much. Guess I’m spoiled for life.

Thing about Krispy Kreme is like propaganda. They do a good job of advertising, I'll give them that. They opened a store here, and it lasted about a year to year and a half. It's now a Chipole's, which does very well. If you bring a product here, it better be something good. Otherwise, you end up with the also-rans.

I have never had a Dunkin Donut. When I was in the Navy Stationed at NAS Imperial Beach CA (south of San Diego. Home town was Cucamonga CA 92 hour drive from San Diego. My Mother worked at a Donut Shop. On Weekends I didn't have the Duty I would go home my mother would send me back to base with 4 dozen Fresh Donuts to share with my Squadron mates. Now I just buy a box of 6 Chocoate old Fashion Fanz donuts.

Don’t believe I’ve ever had a $3 donut. I’ve heard food is expensive in Alaska. Guess it’s not too expensive if you eat it real slow.

You guys. Best donuts bar none are Shipleys, there is a Chinese family here in NWA that owns about 4 or 5 of them. Or did. About 18 months ago, the Shipleys signs disappeared off the stores and just simple Donut sign replaced them. But donuts are the same. I guess their franchise ran out, but they must buy same supplies as donut are the same. Gone up this year to $11 with tax a dozen. But if you want expensive, go find a Hurts. Yes, HURTS. Small franchise. Donuts are mainly 'special' as they start about $3.50 each and go up from there. Closest one here lasted about a year. Closed pre covid. Wonder why?

No donut shops in my area. If you want donuts, then you go to the bakery section of whatever grocery store you want. They are all pretty much the same tasting stuff. Haven't bought donuts in years, so no idea what they cost.

But, I did have a Krispy Kreme a few years ago that was still warm and it was amazingly good.

The donut hole in Destin, FL, Ken’s in Austin, TX, and the square donut place in Bloomington, IN. I understand that there is a place in Charlotte, but I haven’t been there. DD in a pinch, KK only for the most desperate of times.

A Krispy Kreme doughnut is not fit to eat, UNLESS it is still hot from the conveyor, then they will make you hurt yourself.

I try not to look at the place when I go by for fear the "hot doughnuts now" sign will be lit.

In season, I'll bring 3 or 4 fresh cantaloupe to the wonderful Korean owned donut shop that I frequent. The ladies will give me free donuts for a couple of weeks! Normal price for my favorite chocolate iced wonders-85 cents apiece.
