I had a left groin hernia repair yesterday mourning, had to be there at 6:00 AM and was home shortly after 1:00 PM. It's not too sore yet but will probably get worse before it gets better, already starting to turn blue. Going to be couple of weeks laying around.

Had the right side done in 2008, doctor warned me that it would I look like I had been hit with a ball bat. Well it did, I was blue, green, black, purple and yellow. When my dad saw it he said "Dang boy that looks like case color hardening on a cheap shotgun with a sawed off barrel". I miss that old codger.

Hope we all have a good day,
Dave

Which way was it done? scoped or traditional ?
Years ago, 4 days after my traditional hernia surgery, Rt side , I put a new water pump in my brothers car so we could go fishing. I was living in Canada at the time and flew down to Louisiana to get it done the next day because the socialized med could not get to me for 12 weeks. I have had one on the left side and an umbilical one since then.

Well, you know what to expect. Ice is your friend. Prayers for a speedy recovery. I had my right side done a while back and the relief was immediate.

Farmerjim, You must be lucky or tough.

Both of mine were scoped . First one was really sore, couldn't push the clutch on my Toyota pickup for two weeks.

PB, yes ice as we speak!

On Friday Dec' 13 a year+ ago I had 2 repaired (robotically) on the same day, one on each side. The fact that it was Friday the 13th wasn't lost on me, and they had all sorts of openings so I slid right in. But I thought nothing of the day and had it done. I had all sorts of complications and finally had surgery to correct my bodies reaction to the hernia surgery a few months ago. My body will be months getting right from that surgery but this latest is all to be expected according to the Dr. . I'll get there eventually. It seems that when I was younger I healed more rapidly. I thought I was going to be the aging exception, but no.

I hope you do well, the fact is that us older guys don't bounce like a 20 yo anymore.

I had one done when I was a young kid, and another when I was in my 20's. Very little pain, and no bruising at all. What the heck are they doing to cause bruising?

I should have taken a picture when I had my first artificial urinary sphincter put in.

If you're squeamish quit reading now.

1. They cut your taint to put in the compression valve.
2. They put the air tank in your belly
3. The actuator valve is placed in your nut sack.

Both nut sacks were swollen up to the size of medium grapefruits and they did look color case hardened. Talk about SORE!!!!

It may look like your junk was used as a speed bag afterwards, but getting it treated is worth it!

Bad flash back ! 6/6/19 had both groin hernias repaired. Right side had bulge sticking out, left side had tare , but nothing protruding. When I got home, I laid in my recliner legs spread and even the air blowing from ceiling fan seemed to hurt ! Ice, lots of ice VERY VERY GENTLY placed on those poor black n blue swollen nuts ! My wife could not believe how swollen those poor boys were. Lots of jokes and lord knows how many pictures she took while I was passed out spread like that.
I’m sore just thinking about all that!,

Hope you heal fast with less pain then I had.

Mike

I had a stomach surgery in the early 90's. It herniated and I had that and a couple of groin hernias fixed 5 years later. They installed some mesh, no swelling, soreness or discoloration.

Had right side of groin done twice. Two different surgeons, a couple years a part. Second surgeon use the same 4" scar........so it looks like it was only done once. Some discomfort for a while, no discoloration. PITA with the lifting restrictions for the first month, limited to 10 pounds, maximum.

Winelover.

I have had 4 done. First was traditional and they messed it up. Couple years later it strangulated, not fun. Got 2 ambulance rides out of that one. Then the other side and a belly button one done. Doc says they are permanent.

I had two hernia repairs on my right side. The first one had me in the hospital for a couple of days. What sticks out in my mind for the first one was that was the days of the Cuban Missal Crisis. The second one popped while I was on a bicycle ride. It was an outpatient one. It did get swollen for sure.

I had my left side done last August. I wasn’t lucky. I still have chronic pain, that is rare, but happens. They probably pumped the balloon up too far (it was done with a scope) and it stretched the nerve. It still hasn’t calmed down. I did a neurological type treatment, but it didn’t do any good. Sometimes they deaden the nerve, because it’s not very important. I’m about ready to ask them to due it. The worst is driving. Both my vehicles have standard transmissions.
