unknown shape...what is it

A friend gave me a whole bunch of these. dia.=0.360 wt 130 grains
I have know idea what they were designed to be loaded for. I'm guessing .35 caliber but the shape is not one I have seen before.
any help would be appreciated

They were originally for and offered by Thompson Center Muzzle Loading rifles. I had such a mould for my Thompson Center Renegade in .54 Caliber. They also made "Hawken" and "Seneca" models. The Seneca was in .36 caliber as I remember. They were discribed by Thompson Center as "modern mini balls."

.36 cal. Maxi-Ball? IIRC, at one time, both Lyman and T/C offered muzzle-loaders and conical molds in .36 cal.

They can in .36, .45 and .50. Had one for my .45 TC Seneca. There was no need for a patch. They were several thousandths over size and engraved on the rifling at loading. The large grease grooves gave ample space for soft grease to keep the powder fouling soft.

Designed by Thompson Center ... he was a person... for black powder muzzle loading rifles , his company also manufactured and sold black powder arms .
The Maxi-Ball was it's handle , good hunting boolit .

Actually Thompson Center is / was two people ...K.W. Thompson and Warren Center , they were partners .

I had good accuracy in several TC rifles with those the top band is larger in diameter than the others grove dia. to make it easier to load the lower bands are close to bore dia.

I have a T/C mold for that design Maxi-Ball in 50 caliber. I bought it many years ago when I bought my Hawken rifle. Killed a few deer with it. It does penetrate well. Never found a deer that could stop the 370 grain slug. It stopped the deer, though.

I have one in 45cal that I bought for my H&R Hunter Inline. I would remove the breech plug and push them through the barrel, grease them and store them in pill bottles for use in the field. It made them much easier and quicker to load if you don't have to pound them in when the rifling grooves are already cut. It shot well but I never shot a critter with it.
