I am finishing up a Blunderbuss that has a steel barrel.
I was thinking about having the barrel Cerakoted in a Bronze color to make it look more traditional.
I did notice that "Traditions " does offer some of there rifles with a Brown Cerakoted finish on there barrels.
My question is ,
How will the Cerakote Finish hold up to the Flash of a Flintlock ?
I also thought about having the barrel Brass or Bronze plated.
Does anybody have any experience with finishes other than Browning or Bluing.
I do my own Slow Rust Bluing and have a friend that has done Browning for me.

The Cerakote will probably burn off over time. But, it is a very small area that will be affected.

I figured that it would burn off over time.
But I can always make a brass flame sheild that wraps the barrel in that area to protect it..
But it must be somewhat durable , or Traditions wouldn't sell their flintlock mountain rifle with a Cerakoted barrel.

I think I am going to pass on Cerakote on my Blunderbuss barrel.
I got little response to my question about what others think.
Probably because there are not too many Cerakoted barrels in the BP shooting community.
On a site on line , the two rifles that are still in stock and not backordered were the " Traditions " mountain rifles with the Brown Cerakoted barrels.
So that sounds like the Cerakote is not a popular finish , or those rifles would have been sold out also.
But I will still check out having the barrel on the Blunderbuss either Brass or Bronze plated for that antique look.
