I was going thru the molds I have sorting out the ones I use and the ones I do not. I have a Shiloh Mold that I can not find out information on. The diameter of the rings are as follows top to bottom .541, .540, .541 and .528. The mold is stamped D 542 0646.
Any information would be appreciated.

I have a little more information. I think is was made in the 70's and weighs about 420 grain.
Also what end of the bullet is the base and tip?

You might ask over on the N-SSA web site. Shiloh Products dropped all their Civil War skirmish accessories when they got into making replica Sharps rifles. For a while they made the 1863 percussion model, but I think they've dropped that model in favor of the 1877 and 1874 cartridge models.

I seem to recall that there were special "wad cutter" mold designs for the percussion breechloaders and rifle muskets for the Civil War reenactors' target shooting competitions. They made more easily scorable holes in the paper than the traditional pointy boolits. The dimensions you cite sound good for the percussion Sharps rifles and carbines.

Robert, The base is the right end of the CB or the top of the mould as pictured. I'd start by loading it normally, i.e., with the base on the powder charge or toward the breech. If no joy, I'd reverse it. Btw, I've done that with several pistol sized wadcutters and it often works better [in CF cartridges] than "normal" seating.

This might be the famous "Stake Buster" bullet that was made for a shooting competition that centered around shooting a wooden stake in half. Yours seems to be 54 cal. Boy howdy i'd love one in .58

I emailed the Shiloh company. They were nice enough to respond but did not have any information. The hunt continues.
