Ok, so, here's the story.....

I'm headed out for a trip where I want to work up some 9mm Luger loads at the shooting bench with my Lee thigh master.

The problem is, I have loaned out my spare 9mm dies, and I dont want to take the set on my 550 off and have to set all that back up.

So, if I bring a pile of sized, primed brass, I will only need seat and crimp dies (or a seat and crimp die).

What can I use to sub for that? Would either .380 or 38 dies work to seat 9mm?

Thanks for any help.

Never tried it-- but the main difference between 380 and 9mm is case length (380 is shorter). But 380 cases are 0.373 diameter while 9mm cases are 0.380 diameter. So--you might want to test your 380 seating die to be sure a 9mm case will slide up into it, If that works, then you should be able to just unscrew the 380 die a little off the shell holder so that the crimp fits 9mm length-- and it should work.

Let me add, I'm leaving tomorrow. That's why I was looking for a quick sub.

Take a marker, mark your dies in the 550 tool head and If they work in that LEE use them on your trip and reinstall to your marks when you get back. At least that's what I would do.

I would just pull them from the 550 and reinstall them again, it’s just not that big a deal to reinstall them where you want.

I have used 38 super dies for seating and crimping 9mm for years.

Work up loads with equipment you won’t be using to load...sounds like a less than useful way to do things. Especially when you already have everything you need and use.

I either load up test rounds in small numbers or get out one of the mounts I have made for presses so I can plug them into a 2” receiver.

Won’t help your thighs but be a more productive use of your time.
