Sent barreled action and funds. Post office says they delivered. I cannot get a return phone call to confirm delivery from JES.

With no response I'm at a loss for how to move forward, hoping someone can offer some help.

i have sent barreled actions with note attached, about 6-7 days later the barreled action comes back done.
I have talked on phone to him before, left a message he called back.
Never heard of anyone having any issues with him or his work. no worries

I would recommend patience. JES is probably swamped right now and every minute he has to spend on the phone or answering emails is time away from his machinery and thus longer delivery time. If in a couple of or three weeks you have heard nothing then you might become a little concerned.

Agree with the above. He does a lot of business and I don’t think it’s a big shop. The one gun he worked on for me was done in a remarkably short time and done very well. I recall leaving him a message which he returned within one day. Be patient.

It is not a big shop I have been there twice , small one man show with tooling he built himself , he does not answer phone leave a message he calls back , if you have already talked to him then he knows what you want .

Very nice man , and like a lot of us hard of hearing , and he likes no distractions while working .

If you were thinking victim, you would be the first I have heard of from him! Maybe other issue?

Victim? Not from him but someone before him. Lots of funny people in the mail rooms. Hearing about all the bullet molds getting hung up during shipping isn't helping.

Thank you to everyone for their replies.

Sometimes it can be disconcerting considering we now live in an age where information is available immediately. Sounds like just a good old-fashioned shop, just hang in there and it will be worth it. I haven't had a rifle rebored yet, but if I had to pick a place to have one done, JES is it.

You did state Post Office said delivered in original post, being a customer I have found the entire experience to be first class straight up. I am getting old and sometimes words do not seem to mean the same thing anymore. I just read your post and replied, sorry I assumed.

No worries at all.

After reading my OP it doesn't sound the way I intended.

Got it back.

The bore looks smoother than my pac-nor does! The three groove will take a bit to get used to looking at as I'm so conditioned to looking at 5 or 6 grooves. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the pac-nor as its a 338 fed. too.

Not a tool mark left anywhere to be found on the barreled action. I dont know how he does it.

All we know is that it is a 3 groove .338 Federal now- what was it before?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes, Jesse is a treasure. I have heard of 100’s of very happy customers ( including me) and never a bad word.

Very used. Need to refinish stock, recut checkering, and bed.

Will keep you posted.

I wonder when I send my Marlin 336 to turned into a 38-55 if I will have to take it all the way down to just barreled receiver??

Stocks off, scope too if it has one. He does need to test fire it.

I don't think so. When I sent him my Model 64 to punch out to 35/30-30, it didn't appear to have been stripped down. I believe he just removed the bolt and punched it out. Since the 38/55 and the 30-30 (I assume that is what you have) both headspace off of the rim, and share the same rim, headspace is not going to be a problem.

I contacted s couple of reboring services when needing a Belgium Browning BAR rebored and they all said noway. Evidently Brownings have a lot of chrome in them and Dan Pederson at Classic Barrel and Gunworks told me that he wouldn't touch it. I called Jes and he said send it to him. A week later it was a 338-06 from a former 30-06 and it never shot as well as it does now. He is a treasure for sure.

You do not need to take the wood off, but you can if you want. I sent the entire gun minus the scope.

Just to note JES quality/performance. A few years ago, I sent a Sako 243 sporter for rebore to 1/12" 358 Win and it is a tack driver. I cannot overemphasize how pleased I am with his work.

I spoke with Jesse last week about reboring my No.1 Mk3* to 35-303. I had left a voicemail the afternoon before and he called me the next evening.
Point of interest… he said on the SMLE, he wants the barrel removed from the action. That’s a first for me. He’s done several other bolt guns before with the barreled action.

Might be something with the bridge configuration.
