Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have a 14" Bullberry 256 Winchester Contender barrel that I wish to start shooting. It is new and has never had anything down the bore except a cleaning rod. This will be a strictly :cbpour: cast boolit :cbpour: shooter so I am looking for mould suggestions as well as powder suggestions. All ideas are good as far as I am concerned. If you do not agree with a posted idea, please give a reasonable explanation as to why.

Robert

Lyman 257420 with AA1680, 2400, H4227, I'm at work and can't look in the load books for data .
I use surp WC680 @10 gr in my 10" BB TC in 256 WM, but have used the above powders too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok here's a little load data from my old Sierra load book(1985) for 75gr J bullets and 24" barrel, just sub the cast.
2400 11.6 for 2100 fps th 13.6 for 2400fps
IMR4227 13.1 for 2100 to 14.9 for 2400
IMR4198 14.5 for 2000 to 15.6 for 2200
H335 19.0 for 2000 to 20.7 for 2200
BL-C2 19.8 for 2000 to 20.7 for 2100

Hornday 3rd ed. same bullet weight
2400, 4227 and 4198 are about the same
H110 10.0 for 1800 to 12.1 for 2100

From the complete Reloading Manual for the TC:75gr
ACC #9 10.0 for 1900 to 12.0 for 2055
ACC1680 15.0 for1820 to 17.0 for 2100

The above TC book also has one cast boolet listed, the Lyman 257464 an 89grgc Lovern
and 10" barrell
Blue Dot 5.0 for 1071 to 9.5 for 1844
HS-7 5.0 for 1010 to 905 for 1722
SR-4759 7.0 for 1008 to 9.5 for 1487

Hope this helps.

There's an article in The Fouling Shot on this subject; I'll dig it out and post the good stuff.

I am interested in your results with the lyman 257420. I have a 14" and 16.5 of AA1680 works great with the Hornady 60gr FP jacketed. I also want to try the cast in a 257jdj (that I dont have yet)

The Winchester Super Short Non-Magnum (.256 Win. Mag.) from The Fouling Shot. #167:

The writer used an Eagan MX3-25, 95-grain gas check bullet sized 0.260" seated to an OAL of 1.922" with 19.2 grains of BLC-2 and CCI BR-4 primers in a Contender carbine with a 20-inch, 1 in 14" twist Bullberry barrel. The powder charge matched a load for the Remington 86-gr. flat point in a Marlin M62. In a postal match, his aggregate accuracy was 0.872" at 100 yards. I looked at the match stats and it shows he used 19.6 grains of WC846 and the BR4 primer for an estimated velocity of 1900 fps and a group of 0.884".

Hope this helps.
