Lee TL 358-148 wadcutter

Anyone casting this bullet with powder coating and how’s it working?

Can't actually help you, but did not want to ignore the question. I do use PC on many of my bullets, but not on these because typical wadcutter velocity is so low that I figure its a waste of the powder to do these.

Thanks for the reply. I pc all my cast bullets. Thought I would try casting a wadcutter and this is the only one available where I’m at. Oh well if it works it works if not I’m not out much.

It works good IF you size it right for your gun and use the right powder and charge. I've cast and coated many of these for friends.

It should work well TL or PC'd. When pc'ing, using a slightly higher velocity may work better compared to swaged loads. You may need to size to .358". Let us know how your bullets turn out.

I cast, pc, size them to .359 and choot'em in my S&W 19, and my Ruger Speed Six. I run them from mild to wild and they work well.

Yes , I have the mold and cast and powder coat mine . I size .358 after coating . I use the " old school " load of 2.8 grs of Bullseye powder loaded in 38 special cases and seated to the crimp groove . I don't crimp tight , just remove the flare of the case mouth . It works for me . Regards Paul

I cast the exact same boolit - Lee 358 148. But I tumble lube them in a 50-50 mix of LLA and mineral spirits. Cannot say the accuracy when sitting on the NRA recommended load of 2.7 grains of Bullseye is horrible. All kidding aside, it is one of my most accurate loads. No way I'd cover 'em up with paint.

All my cast bullets get powder coated. I shoot a ton of wad cutters from Hornady, Speer and Campro I’ve never cast a wad cutter before and have never cast a Lee TL bullet. Only bullet I use any lube on are the ones I cast for my trapdoor and they are black powder. I tried some 38 SWC bullets from a friend who tumble lubes with Lee Alox and I didn’t like it.
