I am getting a set of CH swaging dies for a 38. I just had a couple of questions for the people that know more about this stuff than I do.

I was planning on using 30 caliber bullet molds to cast cores. How mush weight do the jackets usually add. I want to swage 125ish, 160ish, and 180ish bullets. What weight 30 caliber bullets would get me in those ranges with a jacket. What length jackets would I need for those ranges.

I will probably eventualy start looking for alternatives jackets but I will stick with store bought jackets for the time being.

I know it has probably been asked before and I did search but couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks, for the help guys.

Thanks for the information. Where do you get your .700 jackets. Thanks

I looked at both of them and neither one had jackets that long. I will just have to see how much lead I can stuff into a .580 jacket. I guess I can also check into using used brass for jackets. I just haven't found any brass that is cheaper than jackets.

Back when I did some swaging I used the Lee 30-120 carbine boolit as a core, cast of the purest lead I had (which wasn't pure - YMMV) and ended up w/131 gr soft nose bullets that shot well.

It's ok, I have been looking and can't find any over .580. I know they have to be out there somewhere. I mean if your swaging for a rifle you will need a longer jacket. Corbin sells .660 but hell I can buy jacketed 158 jhp's cheaper.

Bullet Swaging Supply.

They list 38 jackets for sell, they list both the .393 and the .700 BSS jackets. Prices are $45.00for .393 and $60.00 for the .700 per 1000. E-mail Larry Blackmon, leblackmon@colla.com. Great to deal with.

Yes, of sorts, but mostly worthless for the most part. Larry's stuff is pure custom. Tell him what you want, exactly, and he will make it exactly to your specs. ... felix

No web site that I know of but he does send out a 4 page (front and back) description of stock items etc. Some jackets he makes and others he stocks as he can find them.
