Remove Factory Grease/Oils

Just picked up a Pedersoli P53 Enfield rifle, what is the best method to remove the factory grease and oil from inside the barrel?

Don't know if it is best or not, but I have had success with hot water and Dawn dish soap.

On my muskets I run a dry patch down on a jag and then follow it up with hoppes or eds red then dry patch , mine were not full of cosmolene or anything greasy , cleaned up pretty easy .

Traditional British Army method was boiling water with Navy salt water soap. Calgon, Fels Naphtha or ordinary Ivory all work and contain no petroleum-based ingredients. Afterwards preserve with ordinary mineral oil USP from the pharmacy unless you have old supply of hoarded Rangoon (sperm whale) .oil from prewar London gunmaker.

If it's just oil and not grease just about any kind of solvent will work well enough regular rubbing achohol on a patch will do

We used to have a laundromat/cleaner, who advertised steam cleaning for guns, $10. It was great for milsurps to get rid of the cosmoline.

Gas is/was the preferred solvent for grease, cosmoline, and heavy oil.
Saturate some patches and run them until they come out clean; the gas will evaporate and leave nothing behind so you will have to lightly oil the bore and the metal parts of the rifle.
Do this outside and don't smoke while you clean the bore!

We used kerosene in the Corps. Gas should work too for grease.
