Yes agreed. It's still accurate with Tula ammo. I looked at my 1891 Argentine Mauser. It shows black deposits. I look at my Jimenez 380. You can see the machining marks. My little Taurus spectrum looks pretty smooth.

Once you fill those holes with bullet lube it won't look so bad ;-) The up side is the rifling still looks tall enough to get a good grip .

i am cleaning (just recently got) a 93 Venezuelan? mauser and i "don't need a bore scope[smilie=1:" to see how bad the bore is. when i look down the chamber, i can see the first couple of inches that the rifling is worn out to about 20-30%. then its about 50-60% good until you reach 1 or 2" from the muzzle, its about 40ish %.

i'm going to shoot it and i'll see if the barrel is good or not.

Been messing around with a Chilean 1895 short rifle. When I first got it bore looked kinda miserable. Lots of quality time scrubbing with an old 30 cal bore brush, Hoppes and JB bore paste. Usually don't through out old bore brushes. Use them on the next caliber down. And quite surprised how much better the barrel is looking. Frank

This is section of a very accurate rifle bore. I cut it back a bit thinking that with the rust to muzzle section must be trumpeted but apparently not. I call it a 'rust textured bore'. It never copper fouls but then I do lube a hard waxy-lube on the boat tail. Those rust pits hold lube in them, I'm sure. On the down side, I have not had much success with cast or paper patch in it. The rough rifling edges cut into the boolit although that may not be the reason for the accuracy issues. It may be the fact that it is a two-groove which unevenly distorts the boolit bases. Lack of trying hard enough could be another reason.

When testing the new 276 Enfield rifles,it was found that a smooth finish to the bore fouled worse than a rougher one .....these were new made barrels,and the fouling was nickle deposit.

Yes indeed, several years ago I spent the money and now it seems what I purchased were periodic anxiety exercises. Remember when you looked with a bore light and said that's a mirror. Hahahahahahahah!

I have culled all the less than perfect bore milsurps from my collection......an easy way to rationalize moving on pieces that took a lot of time to find.......fortunately , collectors pay big bucks now and dont care about bore condition .
