i know where the mishaps are, but all in all, i go from a bad stock(water damage, bent to the left on rifle channel...) to a good one.
you want to know somethin' funny? i have never shot it!!!!!! i have the reloading dies and the brass, but not the boolits!!!! go figure.............

That turned out nice! When I saw the title first thought "done" as in don't want it no more...oh no can't be if it's an M98!
Is it still 8X57?

Reading your thread title, I thought Good- you can sell it to me! It looks great, well done!
If it is an 8mm; holler. I have boolits.

A very nice build. But I also thought you were ‘done with it’ and giving up on the project. Finished would be a better word.

So, what boolits do you need?

yes, it is a 8x57 mauser. also it was made in 1944 from Mauser AG Oberndorf(byf).
i do not know what it wants(boolit wise). i was thinking either the 170gr ranch dog or lee's 8mm karbiner. although........;-)[smilie=l:
i'm glad that some of you noticed my word pun!!!!;)
Beautiful job. Eager to hear the success stories at the range.

Nice looking stock, even though I don't care for roll over combs (sometimes I want to shoot from the other shoulder).

this is my second rifle that had a roll over stock on left side. (the first was my savage m116....wow i'm getting old) i used "right" roll overs fer years(on my left shoulder).
the roll over is my only one, tho. i use "straight" stocks on my old mausers, krags and husky's.

Beautiful rifle, and nice job! I am currently working on a 1903 sporter, it IS a lot of work.

patiance does it.
yes it does!!!!
i started the stock sometime in the late summer last year. when i was done sanding it, i used lin speed oil. the stock looked good, but it just wasn't fer me. so i "citristrip"ed the stock, put on a dark oil wood filler(should have left for 2 - 3 days), sanded it and put on 4 - 5 coats of minwax antique oil. oh, i put on johnson's paste wax (2 days then i buffed it out).
i did the sanding about 1/2 hour to 5 hours, each day. it was a "labor of love" until i got mad of it or :veryconfu. then i put the stock away and i did something else.

I sold a bishop walnut stock here for my 98. Went with a synthetic and rubber 3X9 Tasco and now it has a “modern” look.

i have a bishop stock for my krag, but it was taken off and i put on the "original" sporter stock. i used a synthetic wood-like stock on my oldest son's 98 mauser.

You did a nice job on that! I like the right action /left shooter mausers. Here is my iteration.

Very nice! A modern classic.
As a lefty, I would live to hear some thoughts on the right bolt/left stock design.
Thanks!
