Relative values of range brass

I'm thinking of offering some range brass for trade but don't really know the relative values.

In particular, 44MAG vs 45ACP. Hard to tell by looking online because nobody has stock so who cares what price they attach. I've looked through recent sales here and there is a disparity, but I'd appreciate a few opinions.

Assume it's all major brand, unprocessed range brass, in good condition.

Well those are two rather "special" cals. Lots like ACP's and you should be able to sell some. I hate it. I have perhaps 1K of ACP brass I will use occasionally.

44MAG is another that many people do not have. I love my 44's but I have 3K of NEW brass for it along with 2K of 44 SPL to load like 45LC loads.

I’ve paid as little as .03-.O6 for range brass 45 ACP. And I don’t even own a 45. But my son has 5, 45 ACP and I load for him.

Those are about 5:1, 45 to 44. But as you say, will they sell?

Here on this forum 44mag seems to fetch 3x what 45ACP does in the classifieds.

As BangerJim says above, strange times to try and price anything.

I've had good luck finding out what the big guys are selling it for, then put it here about 10% less.
It'll turn pretty quick.

Before the madness began, 45 ACP was going around $60.00 per 1000 6 cents apiece.
44 Mag 2-3 times that.

Just check the S&S rules before selling, no more than 10 items per listing and no open ended sales i.e, you have to specify how many items there are, no adding to existing auctions, etc., and your brass should sell nicely. I might ever buy some 45 ACP brass, below a lifetime supply which is horrid LOL

I’m running short on 45acp LPP, down to 23 50cal ammo cans or thereabouts, but even shorter on 44mag and without making any offer to do a deal outside the appropriate forum it wouldn’t be hard to convince me to trade at 5:1 for your once fired or 3.5:1 for range pickup. Lots depends on the quantity, shipping kills the value for many of these deals when a guy has 27 pieces of range pickup.

Remember that the 45 acp comes with both small and large pistol primers these days and some buyers prefer one size over the other.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. It seems you're all seeing the same disparity as I. It's a little nuts, I think if Starline had any new stuff the 44 and 45 would be close to the same price, even though 44mag range brass has always been precious.

I'm going to go throw a little 44mag out there and see how it goes.

I am glad that I stocked up on the most used brass about 10 years ago when it could be had for little more than scrap prices. They are double to triple that now. I see some once fired brass going for more than new.

I wouldn't try to make a killing on it however no one will care if you make a honest buck or 2 off of it

Prices can be crazy. I have four 5 gallon detergent containers full of commercial once fired 9mm. A friend wanted to buy some, but thought about two cents a case was too much. I went to the last local gun show, and it was a dime or more. The new Dillon catalog wants about a hundred bucks for a thousand for new 9mm.

44 mag range brass is a tough sell, the last batch I got from a friend's pistol range, I just gave it away in the PIF section.

Personally when I sell brass, and it is range pickup and mixed head stamps, i sell it at about HALF the cost of new.
You can do the math from there as to relative value.

Just to clarify, new brass is tops, followed by 1x fired and range brass would be lowest( since unless you know for sure it was new ammo, no idea the history or how many reloads). Fishbugs pretty much covered it. Even though many sources are out, you can still see their selling price.
