Hi all, I have a sporterized argentine mauser that I'd like to mount a scope on, I was told that I cant add two sections of picatinny rail like a conventional hunting rifle, and I dont like the look of the scout styled rails. is there any hope that someone makes something similar to a conventional hunting rifle rail? Maybe an offset styled scope like the Savage 340 has? Thank you.

The Redfield, Burris or Leupold 1 piece base for a small ring Mauser is what i prefer to use. Requires D&T to mount, forging or welding a new bolt handle and a scope friendly safety.

Mine has 2 weaver style mounts. It came with them on. They were drilled and tapped. Not sure who did the work. They did a good job. Not sure if this pic helps or not.

Hello, Wyatt20151, welcome to the Cast Boolits Forum.

Larry pretty well covered it in a succinct manner. If you don't want to mount the scope out on the barrel "scout" style (note: that will require a long eye relief scope) and want it on the receiver you will most likely require a drill and tap job to mount whatever type of scope mounts you wish to use, one or two piece. Also, as Larry said, you'll likely need to alter your bolt handle to clear the scope and install a safety that can be operated easily. Concerning your idea about an offset scope, that will require drilling and tapping two-four holes in the left side of the receiver. I think most agree that a scope mounted over the receiver is preferable to a side mounted scope. A photo of your rifle would help with recommendations as perhaps some of these alterations have already been done.

is it a 91 argie or 1909 argie?

i have two sporterized 91 argie's. the one i had my gunsmith put on a redfield aperture sight which he to d&t. the other one, i'm still on the fence. the crest is ground off, so that's not a problem. i would like to d&t it, but i have a sporter 1908 Brazilian mauser(with crest) and next month it will be a scout rifle. i have never had a scout scope on a rifle, but i will try and like it!!!! i don't want to d&t because of the crest. if the Brazilian meets my expectations, then the 91 argie will be my second scout rifle.

I have a UTG scout scope on my mosin. It works well with the rifle. I have it on a no drill mount. It goes where the rear sight is. And has a built in sight notch for close up shots.

BadaceTactical make various no drill bolt on scope mounts. Don't know if they make one for your particular rifle. www.badacetatical.com

The rifle no longer has any collector value so just go ahead and have a gunsmith drill and tap for conventional 2 piece bases and rings .
I've always used Weaver bases and rings but I'm old school .

What Larry Gibson says, but mine are on my large ring mausers, 1909 Argentine and other 1898 large ring's.
