The young man who has permission to hunt our land sent me this pic this morning. 9.5 inch beard, .75 inch spurs, and 21.5 pounds.

One happy kid who is eager to help with any chores we need help with. Symbiosis is a good thing.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210410/aa6ab819d6baa931ef8638cc5d96397e.jpg

Cool.

I think there is some sort of bargain priced DYI taxidermy kit for mounting those tail feather fans and beard.
I've seen a couple done that way over the years, and they look good.

And as Mrs. says, "A house just isn't a home unless there is dead stuff hanging on the walls."

Good for him! I mounted the fan, spurs and beard from my 1st mature tom. I skinned the tail, spread the fan, pinned on a large piece of cardboard, then covered the skin with boraxo. Left it dry for about a month. The beard, I just shoved the meaty end in a cup filled with boraxo. The spurs, I prepared them but cutting the leg bone just below and above the spurs. Put them in another cup, with boraxo. When dry, I cleaned out the hole in the leg bone, cuz I wanted to use paracord to mount them. The plaque, I just cut it out of walnut, routed the edges and varnished. I hope the pic explains better

Well done! Thanks for letting that kid have a chance to hunt your land. He will grow up to be a responsible adult no doubt remember this forever.

We don't prevent hunters from our land, no cattle over there for decades, but like to know the folk are who want access. It's the idiots who dump furniture and garbage on the land or set pop cans on fence post to shoot at, that get me riled.
My cousin was threatened by a hunter while he was removing hay bales from his lease land. He never gave permission to this joker and told him so.
He took down his license plate number and got in his tractor and went home to call the Fish and Game. The hunter got fined I believe but he is still back skulking for land access.

That is great, congratulations, sorry to hear about the trashing , I had people wanting to timber my trees on my farm. Offering a lot of money. I turned them down because I wanted my grand kids to enjoy the woods like I did when I was young.

Spring turkey hunting is much more exciting than deer hunting. That young man will always remember you.

Super! I was working on our ranch this weekend and its spring season here in Texas. Got blessed with a huge Tom looking for hens. Strut and gobbled in front of me for over an hour. I couldn’t shoot. He was so majestic!
I just enjoyed the afternoon.
That young man will never forget that nice bird! Congrats!
