I've seen some old cans and old labels calling their powder "HG". One was a Dupont 1/4 lb. can with "HG" on one side and "FFFG" on the other. Anyone know what the "H" is for?

Any chance it is HFg on a very old Dupont superfine can? I know almost nothing about it, but I've seen one once. I never could get a satisfactory answer. It is some kind of rifle powder.

.

"HG" is a Dupont registered trademark, and refers to "high gloss" on cans of Dupont coatings.

"Hg" is also the symbol for mercury fulminate.

What's perceived on the Dupont can label is that they're "H" F, when it actually says "II - F", as in FFg.

The Schagticoke can is "FF-G", samo-samo

Thank you, Pietro. That makes it simple. Just didn't have a clue.
