Has anyone used any of the .311 molds to cast .312 Enfield bullets? If so which molds.I plan on using for 7.62x54R and .312 303 Enfield.I will be using wheelweights.I would like for them to drop at least .312

You should probably go with the Lyman 314299. Mine drop at .312+. A .312 size/lube die just kisses the mold lines.

I would also recommend the 314299. Mine drop at .314-.315 and I size to .314 for my old Mauser 30-06 that slugged at .313 and the nose will just catch the rifling it I seat it out just far enough.

I need 0.311 for my FN 30-06 and 0.312 for my strangely oversized Marlin 30-30. I had to lap out my moulds (311291 for the 30-06 and Lee 309-170-F for the 30-30). By luck the 311291 had the right nose diameter. The 309-170-F nose area had to be lapped extensively, to 0.306.

Mould lapping and/or beagling may be necessary, simply because there doesn't seem to be all that big a range of 314 moulds available.

Dan...

Have you slugged the bore of your Enfield and M-N? I can't recall seeing (or hearing of) a milsurp LE with a true .311 bore; most run more like .312/.313 (or larger) and shoot best with a .314 or .315 boolit. I don't own an M-N (yet!) but from what I've read on this forum...and there's a lot of M-N shooters hang out here...the Russki pieces can vary all over the place, mostly on the large side.

My Smelly loads at .314 with paper. I tried smaller molds, no way. I ended up with the Lee C312/185 just so I could paper patch. Untill I had that size it was down right embaressing! If I were going plain lead, I would size to .315. I had to have my Collet Dies modified to seat .314 paper.
I learned some lessons with that Enfield.
With paper at .314, I have a favourite tack driver. At .3135, 20min of berm.

I tested my new #314299 out last night. With 50/50 it droped .313+ X .303" Could probably get close enough to a .314" bullet from it with hard alloy. Which is what I'd make boolits with anyway.
