Hi I’m looking for load data for 6.5 carcano, I will be using ppu 139gr .268 FMJ BT, bullets and am hoping to use VV N140 powder.
The rifle they will be shot from is a M38 carcano short rifle
I have slugged the bore which comes out at .268 as I know there is a big debate on the use of .264 or .268 bullets for 6.5 carcano rifles

Any load data would be appreciated but especially any using VV N140 as the arts what I want to use.

Hello Britishlegionaire,

Here's a clip from the Lyman 44th Edition (1967).

I would contact VihtaVouri and ask them. You may be able to extrapolate starting level data for the 6.5 x 47 Lapua or 6.5 Japanese as they both have a case capacity of 48 grs compared to 49 grs for the Carcano. Check and double check your data.

I'd be concerned about shooting .268 jacketed bullets in a .268 slugged bore.

I shot .264 through a .2695 slugged bore

.268 is what I have had recommended for my rifle, I shot .264 originally as I didn’t realise that carcanos have a bore of .268 rather than .264 and it was completely inaccurate

I'm working on 2 6.5x52 Carcano's, 1 has a .269+ bore the other a .2695 bore

Hornady's tenth edition book has reloading data for the 6.5 Carcano with Vihtavuori VIH N160 propellant shown. If that helps you any.
You can look it up on their website or get their book.
