A buddy of mine wants to bag next years' turkey the old-fashioned way; with a muzzle loading shotgun. I suggested GunBroker, GunsAmerica, DGW for used weapons but most of them seem to cartridge guns. Besides, he'd rather have a new repro or a kit instead of going back and forth with the inspection period, gunsmiths, etc.
The "Muzzleloader Kit" thread had some good sources. Has anyone tried the Pedersoli or Cimarron shotguns?

Mike Brooks is one of the best sources he can contact on getting a turkey gun as he is a fowler specialist. I have seen pictures of turkeys taken with the darndest combinations in fowlers. Essentially the parameters for a turkey gun and BP are similar to that of a modern gun. One that can throw a tight pattern with a heavier load of shot. With BP you may just have to accept that they have to be a little closer if you use a classic unchoked gun, otherwise a full choke is a full choke.

I can build a flint fowling gun that will kill turkeys out to 50 yards and maybe a bit beyond. Here's a turkey gun I built a couple years ago. 11 bore 48" barrel with about .035 jug. Ive built probably a 1/2 dozen or more dedicated flint turkey guns. 10 or 11 bore, around 48" to 54" barrel lots of jug, around 120 to 140 grains of BP and about 2 1/2 oz shot, nickel plated works best. Hang onto your hat when you cut her loose![smilie=w:
