I'm getting ready to start loading the Lee 312-155-2R with 2400 powder in a .308. I want to load in the range of 1500-1600 fps since the rifle seems to do best with cast in that velocity range.

Bullets are ACWW sized .310 with grease lube; gas checks will be used. Suggestions? Thanks

Start at 15 gr and go up .5 a gr and go up to 18 gr. You should find a good load from 16 to 18 gr.

Watch COL and get a slight jump to the rifling. In my Ruger 77 I load just short of the crimp groove with 18-20 grs as the higher speed works better for me accuracy wise. However I shoot hard boolets!

I believe this is about as good advice as you'll get. Many years ago my oldest son's first Whitetail load was 25 grains of 2400 with a 30-30 jacketed bullet in 308 Winchester. It worked very well on several Tennessee deer.
Good Luck,
Rick

Start at 15 grs and end up where the accuracy is best in your rifle.

I was always curious about the 25 grains in a jacketed 308 load. Gonna test it out this Spring. Gonna try both the 150 grain and 170 grain 30-30 bullets design in 308 with 2400. Thanks for the motivation.

Maybe these QuickLoad predictions will help.

22" Barrel
7.62mm Brass: 15.0 grains 2400 1694 fps; 18.0 grains 2400 1959 fps
308 Brass: 15.0 grains 2400 1619 fps; 18.0 grains 2400 1918 fps

24" Barrel
7.62mm Brass: 15.0 grains 2400 1738 fps; 18.0 grains 2400 2006 fps
308 Brass: 15.0 grains 2400 1654 fps; 18.0 grains 2400 1966 fps

QuickLoad gets conservative when using milsurp brass (lower capacity).

I use 17 grains in LC cases with a 160 gr. gas checked boolit. Tumble lubed with 45/45/10. Makes a great heavy plinking load. These are out of my 18" Model Seven, 1/12 twist. Smacks the gongs good. About 1750 fps. iirc.

i found 18 gr of 2400 works for me with 150gr-180gr gas checked boolits in my savage 116.its hard not to get an accurate load with a 308.just make sure to keep the boolit base in the neck of the case, works best for me.
