I have an almost two year old brown Lab female. She is a pretty good girl most of the time. She is getting mature enough that I can let her out and be confident she will stay around the yard for an hr with little supervision. She was out sunning today and every time I checked she was sleeping just off the porch. I leave the back door ajar so she can open it to come in. About an hour ago door opened and she came in proud as heck. I went to close the door and seen she was a bit muddy. I grabbed her collar and got a hand full of cow poop! She had done a good job of getting it all over her. Not just any poop, it was slimy, stinky nasty stuff. We went straight to the tub. I just stripped down and jumped in with her. I got the water just right, turned the shower on and wetted her down. While reaching for a bar of soap she decided to shake it off. The tub, the walls and me were covered in wet yucky cow poop! It was nasty!
We are both clean now and she is taking a nap. Man I love my little brown lady!

They do that kind of thing on purpose just so they can laugh at you.

It's amazing how they can become part of the family.

Growing up with Holsteins and Border Collies, all of us kids learned to visually assess a dog before petting it[emoji16].

As my daughter used to say, "Dad, Boots is glowing green again." Which was code for she had rolled in very fresh manure, and not to let her in the house.

My chocolate would do the same thing, with special emphasis on packing extra under her collar.

Had to be extra wet though, she wouldn't mess with the firmer dryer stuff.

mine used to roll in manure and come in the house all proud of himself until he got a bath, it only took about 5 times til he associated the bath with the roll in poo and he does not like baths so he has not come in stinking in a long time.

I have a friend with a brown female lab that tends to find a skunk once in a while. Oh what these companions will get into at times. I know he really loves that dog, but there are times it seems a tiny bit challenged.

Yep, an awful lot was under her collar. She is all dry now and was an 80 pound lap dog for a while tonight. She is forgiven.

We have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever who I think loves to roll in deer poop because she absolutely loves to get washed with the hose or any other water that can be found. She doesn't take naps in the sun she likes to sleep in the kidde pool or under the lawn sprinkler. Loves mud puddles also, will lay down and roll in them. Despite numerous baths every week she is part of the family and we love her

To a pup, that's the very best kind of poop! :-D

I love dogs...They're the best! Give her a scratch behind the ears for me.

Miss my Greys, they never rolled in anything, guess not in their brain. There is a Great Far Side cartoon about this.

Our female black lab would do the same in the front yard with deer poop. I would walk her and her brother before bed and when you saw her drop and roll, you knew you had a messy job before bed. Man I miss those two.

Slightly different but was nice out last night so we decided to sit on our porch swing. GF went in to get something and Ruger decided he was going to sit next to me on the swing like he used to as a puppy. I haven't weighed him in a bit but last time was 150+. She comes back out and he is literally shaking from his tail wagging looking at her going ha ha in your spot. He did get right down when she got to the swing but it was priceless. Love my boy.

The American Bulldog in my (avatar?) would not let me near any gal that stopped by. He was my best bud until a female was around then he kicked me to the curb.
150 lbs Ruger is a big boy!

If it wasn't poop then it was the remains of a dead animal

Mine , (a Lab and Blue Tick Hound mix ) would get out the fenced in yard and come back stinking to high heaven and just as proud of himself as could be ...
and every time we would go into the back yard , tie him to the swing set , get out the hose pipe, Dawn washing liquid and a brush ... I would scrub him all squeaky clean , hose him off ... repeat to get all the nasty spots ...rinse well again ... And he hated every second of the whole ordeal ...
But do you think that hard headed son of a gun would learn ... Heck No ... get out and come back ...Stinking to high heaven .. stinking in Technicolor too ! Whew that dog tried my very soul .
But when he died ... I cried .
