Since Castpics is gone, what should I try?

I think l want 1700 fps as one level and 2200 for the next but will listen to your counsel.

I have some of most powders and Lyman 311291 and Lee 170

Thanks

I've had good luck with 2400 , IMR-4198, H 322 and powders around there using 160 -200 gr boolets with gas checks and LLA.

Check out the Western Powders burn rate chart and look for powders between 2400 and WIn 748 but slower 4895 works too, just need more. I've used H-414 but it's pretty slow for cast boolets.
Ive found my Krag like a full nosed boolet like the Lee 312-160-2R and the Lyman 314299 sized to .311" but I have a new bbrl on mine.

What krag said! Also,, look at Load Data for optional powders and loads. I've been shooting my Krag 's(full military, 7 1895 winnie's, and a handful of sporterized krags) with that boolit for a very long time with no problems!

Specifically I've found for 160/170 gr boolet 17-20 gr of 2400 and 23-25 gr IMR-4198 work fine ~1700 to 1900 fps. In a carbine, might be faster in a 30" bbrl. For the 200 grs they will be a little slower and ~30-35 gr of H-322 will get them on the step. I'm working with RL10x now and it does give a little more velocity at those levels. I be very cautious above 35 grs and move to .5 gr steps in a ladder load.
Do not charge all the cases at once , charge the case and then seat the boolet , i made a mistake a double charged a case with 36 gr of 2400 and had to replace my bolt!:groner:

Consider Reloder 7, H4895, and 5744.

The 'go-to' combination for my '98 Krag carbine is a PC'd 200 gr. Lee and H414. Chrono's in the mid-1800s and more accurate than I can hold with iron sights.

BillIf you don't mind sharing - which Lee mould are you using? What are you sizing them to?

The 309-200-R w/Smoke's Gloss Clear. My barrel slugs just under .309 with clean, sharp rifling so I size driving bands to .311 and nose to .301.
