I had a bunch recently picked up in a garage sale. Some new 444 Marlin and many fire formed for 375 JDJ.
The new ones found a new home quickly.

Good for 356 Win, 307 Win, 308 Marlin, Also made some 8x57 Rimmed with them. Have made long 45 Colt shotshells, but they do bulge as undersize for the 45 Colt. Some have used for 44-40 and 38-40, head is correct rim is close, usually need neck reaming.

I have cut a few to size and run them partway through a .44 mag die to make shotshells for .45 Colt, but haven’t loaded any yet.

Tried them in a 45 Colt/410 Thompson Center barrel as stooopid long 45 colts to get the boolit out to the rifling. They work "ok", nothing to write home about.

Probably not worth the effort but as a conversation piece at the gun club.

Shorten them for .44 Shot loads that don't need a shot capsule.

I use them for 410 shells but there is no reforming them, they work great just as they are.

I recently was playing around on the bench and ran a .44 Mag and a .444 Marlin case into a .357 Auto Mag trim die, I don't have a .357 AM barrel for my Auto mags but bought the form dies years ago incase I ever found one. I think the .357/.44 rem mag case would be a fun round in a Contender.

Using them for years for 410 shottie. they make wonderful little shotshells that with moderate care last a very longtime. Not on topic but 9.3x74R work great for 3 inch shells

I recently picked up a 309 JDJ barrel which also uses 444 Marlin. I found out that every time I use Hornady cases (brand new) the neck wrinkles. I did not lose one RP case out of 40 loaded. Hornady worked just fine for the 375 JDJ.

I use them for my 309 358 375 411 jdj wildcats in T/C contender. Simple, just run them into dies to reduce necks no trimming Rem brass serves me best

Funny you should ask, I have several 308 chambered barrels and was going to thread one for my Large Martini and make a 307 and use 444 shells to form brass for it as no 307 is available down under. regards Stephen

i have two .444 marlin rifles and one rifle in .375 JDJ, so .444 cases get double duty.

Skeet’s,

That link is the 8x57JR. That is a .318 bullet.

8x57 IRS/JRS is .323 bullets.

They are not interchangeable. Too much pressure for the S version in a non S

Do any of you get split necks? I want to play with a couple about two inches long.

Jim,

What are you trying to do? I don’t have any 444. I might have some odd 7x57 or 8x57 rimmed.

375 and 358 JDJ. Given the performance of both, with whichever bullets, I would never go back to the 375. Shooting a 14" SSK conversion of a factory T/C barrel.

Thanks Robert. We will meet up somehow not far apart.

For those wondering I have my great grandmothers smooth bore that I would like to make a couple rounds for it. Not sure on the exact chamber, may need to cast it. I think it is a .44xl. I'll do more research once it cools down. This 110+ heat index has be only working mornings.
