Remington owns them now so we might just see that in the future but who knows.

The frame would have to be different so that somebody doesnt put pistol barrel on the rifle frame make a short barreled rifle and end up getting in trouble.

You could make a Handi Rifle into a pistol but that would require a $200 Stamp from the ATF. By the time you are done with all the paper work and fees it would have been easier and probably cheaper to buy a TC to start with.

TC's aren't a rich mans gun. I got my G2 frame for about 240 in rifle form new then paid 50 for a pistol grip and forearm. I could have gotten a 100 for the rifle stuff if I had wanted to sell it. Then comes the barrels. The most I have paid for a barrel is 180 the least was 105. Most of the barrels I have are in the 125 range. I will admit I got a good deal but it was at a sportmans warehouse so it was a deal anyone could have gotten. The good thing about a TC is you can switch the barrels without having to send them in. Last time I checked on the HR's you had to send them in to get fitted.

H&R has never seen fit to make their barrels interchangeable.
This is the main selling feature of the TCs.

Also, the H&R frame is not a thing of grace and beauty. I had a H&R Huntsman muzzle-loader that was modified into a pistol and it had the handling qualities of a concrete fence post.

I'm almost certain that H&R's days are numbered and that the Handi Rifle will be replaced with an import.

This is fast and a bit loose....

It goes back to the NFA of '34. In those days previous to that H&R made a shotgun that had a pistol length barrel. The marketing for the pistol was as a car gun....intended as a weapon for defense against car jackings (nothing's really new) These guns were "banned" as AOW (Any Other Weapon) H&R made several attempts to make a pistol ATF would certify on the shotgun frame, but because of the existance of the previously banned arms ATF simply won't allow it. They say it is the same gun.

You can alter an NEF and then register it as an AOW. Costs $200.00. By the time you purchase an NEF, make application and payment, you could buy a TC, have a higher quality firearm and none of the headaches.

Didn't H&R make the U.S.R.A. Single Shot Pistols from 1880 to 1940. I've always wanted one but they aren't too many out there and they're pricey. There was an artice about their new model in the March, 1930 edition of The American Rifleman. They came in 22 claiber but not sure what others. I got this info from the website below. Pictures I found on gun auctions.

Why doesn't H+R bring back the 999 Sportsman and the SS pistol? Why not a copy of the Iver Johnson Champion shotgun? No idea, but they won't.

I always wanted one of the 999's, should have bought one when they were new. They are down right pricey now.

Why don't they bring back the 999? Same reason we'll not see a new Savage 99--no market, at least in corporate terms. And, a new .22 revolver from a company that's been out of the marketplace for some years isn't exactly a politically correct move.

Yes but in such a beautiful way.

I was lucky enough to have bought a 999 sportsman some years back. Real nice shooter, the sights are very good.
The frame, grip, hammer, trigger guard latch, and hinge look very much like the single shot pistol.
I have seen old line drawings of the single shot before, but never the real thing those pics are nice.

You're right, but they'll flood the market with more spray and pray type auto loaders and cheap semi-functioning shotguns. It's a shame, just a darn shame.:(
