I intend to elk hunt, possibly for the last time, this season. While I will use 454 Casull 7.5-inch revolver and 300-grain factory jacketed soft point ammunition, I am curious for comparison based upon your experience of my intended ammunition' performance and both 30-30 170-grain jacketed flat point soft point and 35 Remington 200-grain jacketed round nose soft point.

My maximum shooting distance is 85 yards ± 10. The reason I'm a little flexible on range is that I probably will not have time to precisely identify shooting range. Within the flexibility distance change of point of impact will be nominal.

Please do not suggest that I adjust my ammunition to anything else.

The 454 mag has 2 loading levels..
The original sold by FA and the current...
Even the current loadings will match or exceed the original 45-70 for performance ......
Inside 100yds , the 3030 or the 35 rem just need not apply.....
With the correct bullet, the 454 has taken the BIG FIVE of Africa.
It will work just fine on a "little bitty" Elk.!!!!!!
Just target the heart lung area " the basketball" and don't worry about bones.....
If you get a shoulder bone the elk will not go far.
Ps.. I have two early ones, they hit like a semi.......
