Few guns look as good as an engraved Single Action Army, in my opinion. If you want to go even further, look at Elmer Keith's #5 revolver.

A NAA Mini Revolver would be a good little canvas for your talent, sir.
For grins, do a caricature of Sleepy Joe on an 80% "AR14"- stealing an election.....

I don’t know your skill set so I’d suggest to start with a brass frame 1851 Colt Navy repro revolver. Not a terribly expensive workpiece. A brass frame Henry would look sharp but currently are rather pricey.

I apologize for implying anything about your skill set as I just realized who you were and saw the pix of your beautiful S&W in your engravers vice. Wow! You definitely have the skill set. It’s a bad time to buy any firearm no matter what it is especially a decent project gun. I would steer you towards the Italian cas repros. Cas shooters like dolled up firearms and generally have disposable income to play with. Look forward to seeing your ‘new’ project.

I have engraved many vaqueros over the years when I could purchase them for 400 or so for a good used one but now everyone is just to proud of them and priced me out of the market.

Its a 1927 1894 Winchester carbine. Slick action and a near mint bore. I am going a little different with this old rifle. One of My most respected and talented artist is Federick Remington. I am calling this project" A brace of Remingtons on a Winchester" Pics to come as progress begins.
