Trying to put together a few 12 ga, black powder, round ball loads for my new to me old/new shotgun. Using cut down Rem 1x cases. When I crimp with the ball high enough to not rattle in the case I get a very shallow? crimp and the tool damages the ball. When I work up the load so the ball seats lower I get a decent crimp but the ball rattles a bit. Not sure I like "loose" balls in a black powder load. Question is:

Is it safe to use an overshot cards with a single round ball or slug?

I've loaded RB's and slugs in a 20 ga with the same brand tool without issue so not sure whats going on here. Not sure if the overshot card will solve it but want to give it a try if it is safe.

My only concern with a card is if the card might remain on top of the ball after it exits the barrel and affect accuracy. I have had good luck in my 12 bore with AA shells using a .690 ball in a shot cup with no crimp or a .690 ball with a thick lubed patch and no crimp like. They both shoot about the same. Try it and let us know,,,,LK
