Powder, not equipment

I inherited some powders. One of them is Hercules 2400. I mostly load 45,45 long colt, 9, 380 and thinking about 38. Can I use this powder in any of these.

2400 is a real favorite, especially with the bigger handgun loads.
You'll need at least a Lyman book to realize its full potential.

I've never used 2400 of any of those cartridges, only 357 and 44 Magnums, but from my results in them, I wouldn't be afraid to try it in 38 and 45 Colt. Be aware that it was designed as a propellant for mid range rifle loads and when Elmer Keith started using it in handgun (revolver) loads, they were designed to be stout! I would not try to develop light target type loads with it, faster burning powders do so much better at that.

How much did you get? it may be worth buying a caliber to load it in.

Ive used it in 45LC hunting loads, but in a Ruger Blackhawk only.

How much did you get? it may be worth buying a caliber to load it in.It's only about a pound of so. And it is old. Smells ok. So at this point I'm thinking that it isn't worth using. I do have a revolver that shoots both 45acp and 45 Long Colt. But I don't shoot any magnum loads at all. So it might become grass food. [emoji3525]

I don't shoot much 2400 any more but keep a few pounds around along with 296 and power pro 300 mp.
For when I get the itch for a Big Bang .
I would keep it if you trust where it came from .

It doesn't spoil and it's a good cast boolet rifle powder. Give it to someone if you don't want it.

Or - it got it's name because it provided 2400fps in the original Hornet - and I mean the original in the early 1920's. Ever wanted one?

Worked great for my 45 LC(a modern gun). I think I've seen it listed for 38 Special, but no sure I've never used it in this round.

If you load 30 Carbine, it can be used for that
