I’ve been unable to acquire a 158 grain 38 SWC mold for my pistol. They are either not available or at rape prices. I do, however have several hundred of those cast bullets I acquired at auction some time back. They are already lubed and sized, but at .3555”. I decided to try my hand at removing the line and using Signal Orange PC to bump up the size. I used a combination of boiling and acetone wash and they came clean pretty well. But my PC came out mottled. I am wondering if it will still work as is or should I try doing a second coat? The Signal Orange coating came out similar mottled on some 308 bullets I did that never had lube on them.

They should work. What do they measure? Do you have enough thickness to get to 0.358 or 0.359? If not, a second coat would give better coverage and get you the thickness you need. My shake and bake signal orange gives a good coverage. I have several of smokes colors, but use orange quite a bit.

what the color looks like is not an issue

you've got the bullets covered so the protection is there--BLAST AWAY!

I never was much on trying to win a beauty contest, or get some kind of a house keeping award.
I'd shoot 'em and see how they do.

IF you hammer/flatten one does the PC flake off?

I will have to give that a try. Maybe tomorrow.

They got up to .358. I did red on top of the orange just for kicks. Also, after placing the blue ones in the tray I touched the tops of the red/orange ones just for fun.

Did the hammer test. PC staid strong. No flaking.

As long as you see shiny the clear base has coated the bullet and it will shoot just fine.

I don't think there is a problem with the powder it's the application
do you shake and bake?
that is the way they turn out with that method it's just the way it is
has nothing to do with being previously lubed
