So, I’m taking the plunge in building a PID and needed the gurus’ assistance with recommending some parts. Found these on feabay and wondering if I’m heading in the right path......

Here’s my parts list I used to compare specs. I think my probe was only spec’d out to 800 C ... works great and keeps my 710 set temp to within 10 degrees. Your PID looks to be the same as mine. Good product

you need to verify the range that the probe can operate
Type:K
Measuring range: 0~400 ℃ ( 0~752℉)
Cable length: 2 meters(6.5ft)
Probe length: 100mm(4")
Probe diameter 5mm(0.2")
Probe material: Stainless
thread : M8 with nut
I cast at 750F which is at the upper limit of the above probe.
You want a probe that is rated at least 500C which is 932F
Will the 400C probe work? Most likely it will be fine
Will it fail prematurely ? Well it depends. Some Chinese suppliers provide the same probe regardless of the listed range.
So the probes being sold rated for 400C are the same ones sold for 500c or 600C
But you just never know. I prefer to be safe and only use the probes rated AT LEAST 500C

I'm new to casting and found it was just easier to order one from Hatch since he did all the hard stuff already.

Hatch is a good suggestion but sometimes making something yourself is just rewarding and fun.

That looks pretty much like the set I bought off fleabay...as long as its the 800C probe it will setup and work fine. The kit I bought also had the heatsink for the 25A relay.

That is a nice set up using the ammo box.

Your right. Building something yourself and having it work is always rewarding.
Just make sure that you get the right parts.
If you have any problems or questions about a issue you have with one you built just shoot me a PM.
I don’t mind helping even if you didn’t buy it from me.

I got fancier with the bottom (first one), nice box, 2 fuses, and a plugin in front.
On the top, I just grabbed an old power supply box, a cheaper PID in C which is no big deal since it controls my coating oven.

I can't imagine casting or coating without a PID, the PID removes all the guesswork :)
