Good afternoon all. I recently started loading for 50AE after lucking into a Desert Eagle 44mag and ended up getting a 50AE upper and mag (less than $1400 for the whole setup)
I have the brass, powder, primers and got some 350GR bullets (will start casting once I can get J-words to work)
Since the Sierra 350gr HP's don't have any load data that I can find for this caliber and I do have quickload. I looked at some published loads, and ran them through QL to see what the pressures were, and used that as my baseline pressures to stay with, using my components and lengths.
The problem I am running into are that the loads don't seem to want to feed. Not sure if it has to do with the slightly higher barrel location vs the 44mag or what.

My recoil springs might be getting weak and have something to do with it causing the timing to be off when dropping the slide.
Strangely, the 50 AE loads feel softer than my 44mag loads in spite of launching a bullet 100gr heavier at roughly the same velocity with more of the same powder in the same gun

Thoughts?

I had great luck with the NOE 503-354-RF-AF4 over 27 grains of H-110. 28 grains is really hot--- +P a grizzly bear load.

disclaimer -- always double-check loads posted on forums with a reloading book before using

The 50AE DE is a BIG pistol

oh yeah, I always check and double check when developing load. According to QL, for my components (sierra 350gr JHP) the PSI range from other loads puts me at 26-28.2gr for H110. Tried 2 shots of 28gr. surprisingly soft shooting but saw some primer flow so going to back it to about 27.5.
Problem I am running into is not feeding. Not sure if not enough crimp, weak spring or what.

Gas operated pistols (aside from AR style) are a new animal to me

mine feed OK, try lightly polishing the feed ramp.

Can you see where it's hanging up?

I'll try that, didn't think of it. the 50AE slide and barrel are factory new. The 44mag has had several rounds through it and feeds my MP HP clone of lyman 430244 flawlessly. Will report back. Thanks!

These loads are above book loads because the DE would not cycle till I reached them.

For the 50AE.
Powder is H4227 NOT THE IMR version. . I have some loaded but have not had time to test or chrono them.

H4227 - 29.7 gr - 335 gr Rainer copper clad fp - my go to load
H4227 - 29.9 gr - 335 gr bullet hotter but cycles slide very well.

The minimum load to cycle 29.0 gr H4227 with the 335 Rainer. Not always reliable.

I do not have chronograph information for these loads. I'm still playing with loads for this gun so only have this limited data.

I have not used cast yet, but would only use them in the DE if PC'd.

Ps. Primers were CCI 350's

OK checked the feed ramp suggestion. It doesn't' appear to be the ramp where it's hanging. Looks like the brass is catching on the top of the chamber.
Would rounding that edge a tad have any effect on lockup?

Fixed the problem! Turns out new recoil springs fixed the problem. Feeds perfect now! Just gotta tweak the load now
