My new Toy Pietta Remington New Army 44

stopped by Cabelas and they had one.

knocked the shipping oil off and got busy.

unlike my 1860, this one shoots point of aim. I like the sights much better.

Thought it would be harder to clean with the non- removable barrel, but a tea kettle of hot water, a bore brush, and bit of ballistol was quick and easy.

I like mine too. Had a Euroarms Remington way back in the 70s as a teenager, and always missed it, so I bought a Pietta a couple of years ago.

I had to thin out the mainspring a bit on both guns to make it easier to cock.

Nice 1858 fun guns and for me better shooters than the 1860 BUT to my eye those 1860s are one of the best looking revolvers of all time :) I like both.

Took it out again today.

so far.....it's been 100% reliable.

Me too. I finally bought a Pietta .44 caliber 1851 Colt. Since I was already had a .44 caliber round ball mold, it made sense.

While I really like my 1858 Remington, I do have to admit that the open-top Colt revolvers have a certain elegance to them, as well as a slightly more comfortable grip.

I also like the ratchet and hand arrangement on them. Seems stronger.

Love my Armi San Palo. Mine dates to 1980 and was a virgin when I got her last week, To the OP how do you like shootig for 3 minutes and reloading for 15 - 20 minutes. :>). I can't imagine what the Civil War down there was like.

I've tried making them, and reloads go much faster.

Congrats! That's a nice looking Remy and you are really going to enjoy it.

For years, the '51 Navy has been my Laborite - but - I eventually got a Pietta '58 Navy and I really enjoy it. Then, I ran across another one that was marketed as a "belt pistol" - has a 6 1/2" barrel (a Pietta marketing ploy) and I have that one setup with a Howell conversion cylinder and it is also a great revolver. I had a chance to 0urchase a NIB Pietta '58 Army and I should have it on Friday.

I have both Ubdeertis and Pietta - all excellent revolvers. My Piettas all are well made, excellent fit and finish and they shoot very well. While I still love my '51 Navies, the Remingtotons have fast become coveted as well. Great photos and thanks for sharing. Have fun!

When I joined the N-SSA, I knew I wanted the Remington for its solid frame. Mine is by Uberti and once I got the front lever latch sorted out it’s been great fun and very dependable. Now if N-SSA will just start having all their events again! :Fire:

BTW, when I first joined they didn’t allow paper cartridges. I understand they do now, so maybe by the time matches resume on a regular basis I’ll be able to have some made up and ready to use. :drinks:

Well thee old guns are no different than semi autos. The seem to breed in my gun safe. I just picked up a Pietta Remington 44 New Army exactly like the OP's It will be interesting to compare it to my Armi San Paulo version of the design. She who knows best hardly barked at all over this purchase. I think if I go for one more in April I might be on your door step pleading to get as a refugee who life is in danger. In any event as the weather improves I will wring out the gun. Pictures will follow once the 2nd gun arrives. Would be neat to shoot an IDPA stage with the two coal burners.

Looks like it but I went online the other night and there appeared to be more then a few differences , but same basic topography .

Nice spot , I used to live where the shooting range started at the front door and had enough distance for about 700 yards , miss it .
